Check out the new blog I put together with @robertjscott.ca about what's going on with the Ingress NGINX Controller retirement and why you should take this opportunity to shift toward using Gateway API to manage Ingress for your Kubernetes Workloads!

In "doing things that don't scale" news, I noticed that my newsletter open rate was down over the past few months to about 40-45%, and I tried a very manual thing to increase it: I asked for help??
Anyway, it worked, and now it's in the mid-50s again ✨

My favorite new-to-me sensor so far is IMUs or Inertial Measurement Units, which are a collection of sensors including accelerometers & gyroscopes, used in lots of tech, like phones. The book mentioned that IMUs tend to accumulate errors, & how autonomous vehicles use GPS to account for this. Cool~!
So far in chapter 1, I've learned about the various types of sensors required to build an autonomous vehicles, and the various roles they play in the decision-making systems (which I'll learn more about in future chapters).
@waymo.bsky.social is coming to my area and I'm super excited! I love autonomous vehicles. So last night, I started reading "Creating Autonomous Vehicle Systems" to learn a little bit about these engineering marvels. (available from IEEE: innovate.ieee.org/wp-content/u...
For folks in the Seattle area- I’m speaking TOMORROW (Jan 27, 2026) at the AICamp meetup in Bellevue!
I'll be sharing how I built the Podcast Assistant MCP Server to automate content workflows and reclaim creative time.

"Performance engineering isn't about making things fast, it's about making them predictably fast", using percentiles not averages, designing for tail behaviour, feedback loops, and the ability to observe. "Predictability is not the goal, stability is." —Jacinta Richardson, #everythingopen #eo2026
Hello again, everything is still scary and hard and the tech job market is wild right now, so here's my semi-regular thread of open jobs I've found where your work could make the world better (or at least, not make it worse)
Ingress NGINX is being retired in March 2026.
After this date, no security patches or bugfixes will be issued. Plan your migration to Gateway API or a supported controller now.

There was an issue with this post and we took it down and put up a new one. Thanks for catching! We'll delete this BlueSky post about it.
This is so amazing!!! You're making me want to get into 3d printing.
I'm thinking of starting a software testing/QA focused newsletter! (Well, I've actually started)
QA is very broad & very deep in topics. I have a lot of different interests I’ll be writing about.
What areas of QA interest you?
Google Open Source is now on BlueSky at @googleoss.bsky.social!
Thanks to @nathenharvey.bsky.social, I just learned that @wiredferret.bsky.social has a new book out and it's disrupting my new year's reading schedule. WANT. itrevolution.com/product/prog...

My photos app reminded me that 4 years ago, I led a drawing activity in the virtual Kubernetes contributor end of year party. Containerized Cat!!
Tomorrow is Friday, right?
Thank you!
Absolutely sending me how I look like an innocent baby and Kat looks like an evil mastermind
A photo of my hand with long black nails holding a custom Exploding Kittens card. It's called Shuffle Double Trouble, with an illustration of me and Ian in the same clothes with similar hair. It shuffles the draw pile.
Look out if you're at Kubecon, @lookitup.baby and I have a new way to cause (good) trouble
There's also a KubeCon channel in the cncf slack

Working on @kubernetespodcast.com is a delight, but also takes a lot of time & effort. 😅 This year, I've been exploring ways to speed up our publishing process- a journey which ultimately led me to build an MCP Server! Why MCP? Check out my new blog to find out! dev.to/googlecloud/...
The K8s Contributor Comms Team needs YOUR help!! KubeCon NA is just around the corner, & we're prepping our social media coverage. We'll tell you what to write about & publish for you- all you have to do is write the post! Reach out in Slack to learn more- kubernetes.slack.com/archives/C03...
