the fact that legislators are trying to say that computers are devices that require id verification and tracking to use should put fear into EVERYONE. FIGHT AGAINST THIS.

Anyway, the relationship between documentation and “craft” I think is a venn diagram comprised of a single circle- intentionally or otherwise. Some examples are maybe just more obvious than others, though the hierarchy of western academics sort of skews all of it in a funny way at times

But also these entirely new layers of it needing people from those communities to activate it, for the context to be known. I also think of 40’s depression era pueblo jewelry and plastic reuse in place of semi precious stones etc… it’s really beautiful to consider it in the grand scheme of things

There is like, a sort of historical chain linking when you get to craft techniques. Variations become community specific, and materials too. So you get a web comprised of time capsules around the process as information is disseminated. It is the evolution of technology through “”craft””

Really love the variation in tactile mnemonic devices across Indigenous cultures and its relationship to personal adornment.
I’m reminded of northern peoples and histories around wampum belts and beads too. Also lmao at how effective closed practices are vs academia😂
