The Shetland Greens have made huge gains in recent years, including electing Cllr @alexjarmitage.bsky.social to an otherwise very independent-minded council.
It's been great chatting to people today about the reasons for that growing support, like our work to tackle the shortage of housing.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage was met with protests from Green representatives when he arrived in Lerwick, including the party’s constituency candidate @alexjarmitage.bsky.social
Farage visited Shetland today.
We do not welcome his toxic politics of division.
I’m proud of all the Shetlanders who mobilised at short notice to stand up to the far right on the streets of Lerwick.
Great weekend campaigning with Shetland Greens for the Hollywood elections on the 7th of May.
We are gaining one new member every single day at the moment.
Many voters are switching to the Greens and it’s clear that we’re building a strong movement for the future in Shetland.
If you’re voting in Scotland in May, here’s why you need to vote Green with your regional vote to stop Reform UK.
My opinion piece on why the Green movement gives Scotland the best hope of independence.
The First Minister @johnswinney.bsky.social should be explicitly condemning the barbaric actions of Trump and Netanyahu. The Iranian people need international leaders to do better than this.
Back in Shetland; out canvassing in Tingwall today, having been down in Manchester during the week.
I have to pinch myself at how many folk are voting Green.
Politics changed this week.
As a similarly longstanding Green Party activist, this⬇️
My take on the Gorton and Denton by election, having campaigned there yesterday, is that this is the end for Labour.
The Green floodgates are opening; there is nowhere now that we can’t win
So proud to be part of the @shetlandgreens.bsky.social team campaigning in the Gorton and Denton by-election for @greenpartyhan.bsky.social and @zackpolanski.bsky.social
If the Greens win here, we can win in many, many places.
Let’s go Greens!
Police officers support the Greens BECAUSE of our drugs policy
On my way down to Manchester from Shetland for the Gorton and Denton by election to support @greenpartyhan.bsky.social and @zackpolanski.bsky.social
This one is going down to the wire- we need all hands on deck.
Energy corporations do not have our interests at heart. They will extract as much wealth and power as they are allowed to.
We need to elect politicians that can stand up to corporate power, not those who are beholden to it.
Drug barons aren’t afraid of the police.
They’re afraid of @zackpolanski.bsky.social.
The Greens’ policy to legalise and regulate all drugs means that we’re the party that is toughest on crime.
The more oxygen our drugs policy gets, the more people see sense in it, the more it gets implemented, the less harm we do to the most vulnerablised folk in society.
3/3
The problem for them is that everyone knows that our drugs laws are failing. More people are using drugs than ever, there is more drug related harm than ever. We are not winning!

When Zoë Garbett and I wrote the Greens’ drugs policy in 2019, this is exactly what we hoped for.
Our opponents think that our policy of legal regulation is a weakness that can be exploited for political gain - but it’s backfiring.

Had a busy week working in Aberdeen this week, but great to get out with @scottishgreens.org members in the evening, campaigning for @maggiechapman.bsky.social to get re-elected to the Scottish Parliament in May.
Maggie has been such an important voice at Holyrood and we need more like her! 💚💚💚
If John Swinney means what he says about Petrofac, we have to stop wasting time debating oil & gas while the industry expires.
Instead, let's put all our force behind investing in Aberdeen's green energy future.
I’ve been a @greenparty.org.uk activist for 10 years, now a @scottishgreens.org councillor.
I’ve knocked thousands of doors and had thousands of doorstep conversations.
The Greens weren’t so popular back then, but we always believed our hard work would pay off.
Thanks @zackpolanski.bsky.social
Human Rights now and always.
@scottishgreens.org welcomes refugees.
Shetland consultant paediatrician and councillor @alexjarmitage.bsky.social is proposing policy to “unambiguously” end prohibition of drugs in Scotland, and ensure distribution of the most dangerous drugs is controlled by health professional.
After speaking at a March for Gaza in Eastbourne today, a group of young people told me the Green Party and its new leadership team gave them hope in politics for the first time in their lives.
We now have over 20,000 Young Greens, now is the perfect time for young people to join us. 💚

This would nearly DOUBLE the UK's yearly emissions.
How does this give kids a liveable future? How does this lower bills? How does this make the UK a leader on climate resilience?
It doesn't. It makes more money for energy companies, & f❗cks up our future.
Shaetlan has finally been recognised as a language in its own right.
The recognition comes after the local language was given its own ISO code by SIL Global, the organisation that handles the international Ethnologue database has been tasked with the handling of international language ISO codes.
Legalise *and* regulate drugs.
