Cool!! I’ll have to check them out next time I’m driving through.

Nachusa has been pretty successful getting it to establish in restorations but it’s not a dominant grass in any of the remnants or restorations that I’ve seen in IL. Where are the old growth ones you manage? The scientist out there was saying he’d seen similar in MN prairies.
all the sporobolus was blowing my mind!!
It looks like the tussock grasses of the Aleutian islands because its main grass is Sporobolus - prairie dropseed.
Plus they’d just burned the beautiful oak savanna in the background. 12/10 no notes.

Sign w photo of Dr. Greene’s process for restoring prairie at the UW Madison arboretum in the 1950’s mostly by plugs.
A photo of prairie dropseed mecca rolling into recently burned oak savanna.
Had a great trip up to UW Madison to give a talk to the botany department. I enjoyed meeting the students and faculty and reconnecting with colleagues. The highlight was visiting the UW Arboretum, with its rich history of restoration ecology. This was one of the most unique prairies I’ve seen! 🧪
No. Because it would be creepy to be evaluated for a science job based on looks and implicit bias means people won’t be able to help doing it.
😂
I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. Wait. Not that acid-trip-fueled horror clown bird. I don’t remember signing off on that one.

I’m really excited for this SF! With it we’re trying to combat the positive bias in publishing - how we and reviewers are inclined to only lift up research that goes as expected. But we all know there are so many lessons to be learned when you get unexpected results, or when things don’t work. 🧪
Spoiler - this restored tallgrass prairie is @nature.org Nachusa Grasslands and the research shows correlations between plant and microbe beta-diversity, but not alpha-diversity! @science.nature.org @dochpjones.bsky.social + amazing co-authors not on bluesky
🚨 THIS JUST IN: With over 100 protests still to come, we can already estimate that at least 8 million people participated in No Kings protests today.
That makes No Kings 3 the largest single day of protest in American history. #NoKings
Wars don’t kill. Men who skipped therapy do.
The only monarch I support with photo of butterfly. All of my outrage can’t fit on onesign.
Beautiful day to exercise our constitutional rights. #NoKings @votesaveamerica.crooked.com

Fun fact: I interviewed at UHawaii - Manoa but didn’t get the job. It’s such a beautiful place but I don’t know if we could’ve afforded to live there comfortably.
Prescribed or controlled burns, when done right, reduce fuel loads and the chances for uncontrollable wildfires, which are another beast entirely and mostly caused by a combo of climate change, invasive grasses, and people.
Ding ding ding! I didn’t meet him either though.
Thanks for inviting me @rovingnaturalist.bsky.social 😊

Did a terrible job of taking photos of any of Penn State‘s beautiful, snow covered campus today but did snap this awesome office door.
Also had a blast meeting all the ecology folks and sharing a little about my lab’s research :)

I think there are a lot of academics who were knowingly attended dinners and lunches where they knew Epstein would be in the 2010s that are telling themselves that actually it's cool because it's not like they're pedophiles but by the 2010s he was an unrepentant convicted pedophile, folks
Men, it's worth pondering that these academic men are the same ones that teach young women straight out of school. These are the men given academic authority over young women's careers.
It's really challenging for young women to negotiate the minefield of creepiness these men create for them.
