Lessons from the Far Side of the Moon “human in the loop” I am sure you have seen and heard this phrase that has become almost a default in conversations about AI and work. I have been thinking about it for months.

Always Go To The Funeral As a child, Deirdre Sullivan learned from her father to always pay her respects at funerals. Now, this NPR listener believes those simple acts of human kindness are as important as the grand gestures.

What a powerful read!

#notskillsgapbutrecognitiongap #recognition #skills #rpl #plar #skilling #credentials #skillsbasedhiring #skillsfirstsystems | Taruna Goel This was an interesting read. The "Credential Fluency" report, while framed around non-degree credentials and hiring strategy, is in my view, fundamentally documenting a recognition problem at scale. ...

What is often called as the 'skills gap' is actually a 'recognition gap' i.e. the gap between acknowledging that competence exists outside formal education, and actually building the infrastructure to assess and recognize it. www.linkedin.com/posts/taruna...

The em dash has had a rough year :) This whole 'blame the dash' is a cultural phenomenon that says more about our anxiety than about the punctuation itself. Still, I am glad that stylistic choices are getting their moment. I have always enjoyed good punctuation — and I am rather fond of mine.

Experience Alone Does Not Guarantee Learning Over the past few days, I have been mulling over a very simple concept: learning doesn’t automatically result from experience. But John Dewey (1933) said it better: "We do not learn from experience.

In RPL (and life), it's important to clarify what counts. If we count experience over learning, we may end up validating years instead of validating competencies.
Here's my take on why we call "RPL" Recognition of Prior Learning, not Recognition of Prior Experience. lnkd.in/gyk5g-yx

I appreciate his idea around speed vs. thought and if AI is needed or if human is needed. I have seen how sometimes having an efficient solution quickly can give an illusion that its also effective. Keeping the human in the loop is a conscious and intentional step.
