Our leagues in Maine play in Canada all the time! We love it! But 1) a dazzling number of Americans do not have passports and 2) they can find similarly ranked teams to play closer to them than Canada.

I think we’re in one of those nebulous phases where we are trying everything the new way and then sorting the things that don’t work the new way back into older, more compatible categories. I don’t miss physical media, but I am encouraged when my kids buy vinyl records.

I think that the cultural shift to mostly video has hurt music and writing because these non-visual art forms now must often also work as video to gain traction. Photography has made visual art more abstract and interesting, though. For behavior, I blame oversharing on platforms, not art forms.

I was working at a show with a couple Nashville songwriters on the bill a few years ago and one of them announced to the audience that if they wanted to hear more of their music and couldn’t buy it outright that they should use Tidal because it offers better terms to artists. That’s when I switched.

YouTube TV/Sunday Ticket also does this by default.
