I feel a big problem was that BfA and Shadowlands were full of bad stuff happening and the overwhelming response was "this is horrible, I don't want to play as a character being forced to do horrible things or constantly be the victim or horrible things it feels so nihilistic" and Blizzard listened.

They even rewrote Brennadam to make the Horde more evil.

And there's bad implications given the racial coding of most of the Horde and most of the Alliance.

I wasn't too fond of MOP personally, even when it wasn't demonizing orcs, trolls, tauren and goblins, it was demonizing Yaungol, Zandalar, ETC.

The writers felt frightened to depict european factions as wrongdoers.

I love how Silvermoon gradually gets more chaotic as you progress through the MSQ. Having just finished Harandar yesterday and starting Arator's journey today (I am both a slow leveler and also fighting a bad cold), I found the portral room is now full of blood elves evacuating the city.
