His ending is striking and poignant for the reasons you outline as well.

Anakin != Vader - same guy sure but not the same thing

Extended universe offers a lot of this, but I'm really only talking movies.

Thing is, they could have just filmed the Zahn trilogy and come out winners here.

People love Vader and people love Luke. They're what made Star Wars Star Wars.

But even with the prequel trilogy, we never see Vader at peak Vader. And the sequel trilogy never gave us peak Luke.

It's just dumb! I want to see badasses be badass.

(Tho I agree TLJ ending for Luke was badass)

I agree with this. I do want to add something, not so much to his ending, but the context of his (and ironically Vader's journey)

So at this point we have 8 movies right? And we follow 2 really powerful Jedis. The antagonist and protagonist of a trilogy of trilogies.

The NHL is ab absolute joke of a league. I'm not even going to take the easy "Bettman sucks" route, because the NHL suckage is way beyond just him. It is not a serious league.
