"He's no idiot; he's got an economics degree" - Tony Barry on Back to Back Barries
One of the greatest oxymorons of all time #auspol

The US President threatened genocide and the most our PM can say is that his comments may "cause some concern"

I guess by "controversial" I mean unexpected (in a good way).
Unfortunately all those examples are expected because they don't break with the status quo
Albo made his way to the prime ministership by criticising Scomo's handling of various crises.
Now he shys away from saying anything controversial or seizing the moment to implement reform. I guess you can't screw up if you always adopt a cautious approach, but you also waste your time in office.
Praying for a world in which I can open the news and never see or hear about Kyle Sandilands ever again.
It is funny that Australia has preferential voting because the two non-Labor parties split the right-wing vote, and now the same thing is happening except preferential voting is benefitting Labor instead
Genuninely one of the most ludicrous things I've ever read. Had to re-read several times to make sure it wasn't satire.

one hundred percent
Was teaching a class and I had a breaking bad meme on a ppt slide. Only 3/20 students had seen it!
Let's hope history sticks to the script then and all their sitting members leave the party by the time of the next election 😂
That's true, but they'll probably be kept out of more seats where Labor finishes 3rd and preferences flow to the Libs
Get ready for a wave of One Nation figures to demand Australia adopt first-past-the-post voting after they struggle to translate a high primary vote into as many seats #SAvotes
The Liberal Party finishing 4th or even 5th on primary votes reminds me a lot of the UK Conservative party - the future of right-wing politics is populist #SAvotes
How I feel after reading Trump's latest tantrum on "Truth" Social
Wrote my first Conversation article on truth in political advertising in South Australia! Based on my book chapter, it's the first time I've done something like this and ended up on WA radio. Not too bad for a day at work.

Had a little rant on Australia's response to the war on Iran

Great work by the AFR

It is incidences like this which show how ridiculous it is to pretend that Australia would have any choice in joining a US-led war against China.
Our militaries are so enmeshed Australian troops would be immediately implicated.

I can't believe people still have takes that are basically "behind the shit show, Trump actually has a shrewd strategy"
Fantastic. Well done. Great job, Angus.
A perfect example of how the governments hate speech laws can backfire: banning fascist symbols results in anti-fascism material being taken down

Old mate Minns trying to have it both ways...

I think there are a lot of parallels between UK and Aus politics right now. Labor governments passing draconian laws and mainstream right-wing parties being replaced by populist ones.
Labour parties around Australia were formed because colonial governments kept shooting striking workers who were protesting. Chris Minns and his draconian anti-protest laws are a disgrace to the history of his own party. #auspol
Shame
So, the guy who helped develop the idea of encouraging people to go further into debt to the Banks with a 5% deposit now works for...Australia's largest bank.

I read Tony Abbott's history of Australia. My verdict? Surprisingly good.
Deeply flawed in interpretation, but an honest account of Australian history and revealing of how the conservative mind understands this nation's history.
