Once you realize that social media is not about “reaching people” you’ll have a better time on social media

Glad to hear my fave format of eating out is still doing well. I feel like London has been lagging behind other UK cities, and wondered if food halls were no longer profitable here when Street Feast quit, but I think that was more to do with their boss's volatility. KERB still by far the best imo!
If it's any help to your subconscious, this is remarkably close to the exact story of my actual real-life Maths degree and everyone got over it surprisingly quickly
Dudley was previously leader of Windsor council when he was in the Tories, at which time this got him across the national press >>

but I also half-blame everyone who is still using X as if it isn't a site run by a Nazi who actively and intentionally promotes hateful and dangerous content at all its users, and justifying doing so by proclaiming that Bluesky has some sort of flaw that is in any way worse than *that*
I half-blame them (and the correct marketing is "Hey, organisations still on X! Did you know the [high]% of people who have no X account can't see the latest stuff you posted nowadays thanks to Musk's changes? Whereas anyone can get your latest updates on Bluesky, like Twitter was when you joined")
(Now on one of the last DLRs to run anywhere between Bank/Tower Gateway and Poplar/Canary Wharf for almost a week… don't get caught out, they'll next be running next Thursday morning, but only for two days, then none again until the following Monday)
Very excited to watch this! The book is wonderful 👏🏻
Today is gonna be the day that they’re gonna throw it back to you BUY NOW: Prosecco and a ‘wow’ Burlesque show, plus a meal for two
I’ve been singing it this way for years.
right now the astronauts are calling houston because the computer on the spaceship is running two instances of microsoft outlook and they can't figure out why. nasa is about to remote into the computer
Not the 'funniest' but as a unique offering to this topic, here's one I still remember as a perfect exemplar of a corporate tweeter running out of ideas
So many comments on this had me struggling to not wake the household with laughter.
Do yourself a favor and scroll a bit.
Personal all-timer:
So glad to get an update to my favourite YG poll question
I've never hit "Kill All Clients" faster! 😱
Adding to my list "A submarine captain has to resign due to allegedly flirtatious texts with one of those councillors"
think ultimately Twitter came of age at a point in the life of the internet when people were used to having a lot of agency but a lot of duties too - social media has now become so friction-free that people coming here have a hard time going back to "I have to *do things*? myself?"
Nothing like watching your media computer's mouse pointer suddenly start moving by itself and go into your browser menu and try to open its password manager, to make you close off the (non-default) VNC port you'd opened on your router for occasional remote access use 😱
Love and solidarity to all trans folk this Trans Day of Visibility and every day, whether or not you feel able to be visible. I'm commemorating with the brilliant Kae Tempest's latest album which gives me goosebumps youtube.com/playlist?lis...
I'd managed to completely forget that April Fools' Day was a thing, let alone that we're only five hours away from it. Truly the worst of the occasions. I think I even prefer Black Friday Month! Blue Monday! International Men's Day!
There's a *lot* of DLR closures scheduled atm, including much of the network last weekend and an almost week-long closure of a big chunk starting this Friday… Anyone taking bets on a few of the new trains reappearing in time to serve the Marathon crowds next month? 🤔
People outraged the BBC sacked Scott Mills despite the alleged police case against him reportedly being dropped may like to consider whether they also think the BBC was right never to have sacked Jimmy Savile back when police investigations against him were being dropped 🤔
Bridget Christie's Linda from The Change needs to sit down with this guy and patiently make him think this through
It's interesting that the reaction on here is mostly very surprised and shocked, unlike 90% of "celebrity gets in trouble" cases where everyone is like "not before time!". Wonder what's happened. I'm sure it will leak soon!
And I'd just been thinking how long it had been since they'd had to skip an episode in the BBC Four Top Of The Pops repeats run due to who was presenting it. If this 'conduct' is really bad* they'll drop three next month
*I realise that this is not the main reason to hope it's not really bad
Screenshot from Lidl Plus app showing Terry's and Cadbury's so-called Medium Easter eggs reduced from an already-quite-cheap £1.49 to 99p for app users
Nine Freddo eggs in my shopping basket because I forgot to photograph the shelf in my excitement to fill my basket
A rare Early #EggWatch: if you've got the (free/your-data-funded) Lidl Plus app, small Easter eggs (which have been rebranded as "medium" this year) are available for 99p while stocks last, which is unlikely to be beaten much/at all after Easter, and Lewisham Lidl has a lot of Freddo ones in stock 🐸
🙁
A pair of comments on Instagram. The first, from someone I don't know, says: "What a lovely civilised good-humoured country we used to live in. It astounds me when I see these old clips how happy and easy going people seem. These days everybody is offended, angry, insulted divided and unhappy..... And how's that happened?" The second comment is a reply to that, from me, and it says: "I think it's caused by people on social media posting questionable sweeping generalisations about society, and strangers replying to them to disagree snarkily, leaving both people feeling slightly annoved by the exchange and somehow more convinced of their own position's correctness and therefore more likely to do it all again but slightly angrier next time"
That told 'em! 😏 And if they don't get it, I'll go in harder 😡
Just saw a placard that said "Capitalism divides, socialism unites", which I'm sure would be loved by all my friends in the Labour Party, the Green Party, the Socialist Party, the Socialist Workers' Party, the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition, Your Party, Respect, People Before Profit, Workers' L
Overweight, overpriced, overheated: if anyone out there is in the market for a 12-ton metaphor for Boris Johnson’s contribution to British national life, you’re in luck.
A homemade placard which says "Leave X now (yes, even you)"
When you're trying to think of a placard for a march against such a many-pronged evil as "the far right", sometimes you just have to go with the simplest idea that you think might make any kind of difference
