Airport expansion will put UK’s net zero goal in ‘serious jeopardy’, MPs warn Committee urges ministers to set out measures to reduce carbon emissions before work starts on new runways

The @commonseac.parliament.uk report released today concludes that current government support for airport expansion is incompatible with the UK’s climate and nature targets, and is based on claims of economic growth that lack substansive evidence.

Grateful to have contributed to this piece with Kevin. Airport expansion is a clear test of whether the UK is serious about its climate commitments. New airport capacity and meeting our carbon obligations simply do not align, and the costs fall hardest on those who fly least.

When will Starmer learn that no matter how good his Nigel Farage impression gets, it won't save him from wipeout at the hands of Reform? Here's another idea - how about doing the work that's needed to actually make people's lives better? 🧵

How petrostates succeeded in watering down the world’s plan to cut shipping emissions The UN has agreed to charge ships for the greenhouse gases they emit – but the price is far too low.

"The IMO has well and truly failed the most climate vulnerable" - a new blog about the latest development in tackling greenhouse gas emissions from shipping: theconversation.com/how-petrosta... Sadly an outcome completely at odds with stated ambitions & its 2023 strategy @uomscieng.bsky.social
