By that logic, Pearl Harbor wasn’t an act of war until the first bomb actually hit the ships. That’s nonsense. An act of war begins the moment someone deliberately launches weapons at you.

Actually, plenty of experts are worried. SIPRI missile expert Dr. Markus Schiller, Douglas Barrie, Sidharth Kaushal from RUSI,
Decker Eveleth from CNA, Mauro Gilli at Hertie School in Berlin.

Would you say the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor didn’t matter because most of our carriers weren’t in port and we stopped their follow-up waves? An attempt to strike a U.S. military base is still an act of war, whether the missiles get through or not.

The point isn’t whether they hit us — it’s that their missiles can reach London, Paris, Rome. That changes insurance for every US base in the region. Ping me when they hit us treats a near-miss on a nuclear-capable strategic base as nothing, because nothing visibly bad happened to you personally.😬😳

Iran launched missiles at US-UK military base in the Indian Ocean. Here’s what that says about its capabilities | CNN Politics Iran’s attempt to strike a US-UK base over 2,000 miles (over 3,000 kilometers) off its coast has renewed questions about Tehran’s military capabilities and how far its missiles can reach.

Iran puts Europe on notice with ‘game changer’ Diego Garcia missile incident Iran’s firing of two missiles toward the joint U.S.-U.K. base in the Indian Ocean is putting Europe on notice that Tehran appears able to levy attacks previously considered beyond its reach. …

I can’t dialogue with your propaganda and vague critiques (woefully misinformed, predisposition to irrationally deny etc).

“And just cuz they doesn’t mean we need to respond.” 😳😳😳😳 this means they can reach Europe. So you want us to stand back and let them enable nuclear ballistic missiles they can fire at Europe?

Iran fires missiles at remote U.K.-U.S. base, suggesting long-range capabilities it previously denied Diego Garcia is the same distance from Iran as much of central Europe.

Iran fired 2 intermediate-range ballistic missiles at Diego Garcia, located more than 2,000 miles from Tehran. Neither missile hit the base. One suffered an in-flight failure, while the other was intercepted.

Iran launched 2 ballistic missiles at Diego Garcia. One failed mid-flight, the other intercepted by a US warship. UK Housing Secretary Steve Reed confirmed the Iranians “certainly targeted Diego Garcia.” Your post is antisemitic propaganda and easily refuted by reputable global reporting.

Nobody “wants” war but Iran just fired on Diego Garcia. Khamenei had authorized miniaturized nuclear warheads for ballistic missiles. A nuclear strike on Europe would trigger NATO Article 5, collapse global markets, create a refugee crisis unlike anything in history. @hcrichardson.bsky.social

Nobody sane “wants” war but Iran just showed the world that it has missiles that reach Europe. Should we do nothing and let them build a nuclear warhead so they could launch a nuke on Europe? We live in one interconnected world.

This is a huge deal, and the number of people I see pooh-poohing this as just a loss to a supposedly elite group sucks. A) most of the jobs that disappeared were the working-class ones; B) bye bye not just to local coverage but to arts, sports, everything that’s not tech/biz/politics/opinion/advice

There is credible reporting that Robinson held views that placed him left of his conservative family, and that he was strongly opposed to Charlie Kirk’s conservative, pro-Trump ideology.

In other words: there's growing evidence not only that precipitation extremes will increase (in general) due to climate change--but also that the most intense, rarest, & most dangerous rain events will increase faster than more "moderate" extremes. That's...not great!

And while mistakes were surely made in the science advice, it is far too simplistic to say "the scientific advisers got it wrong". Yes, there needs to be independent evaluation, but also consideration of how the advice was itself politically constrained and indeed compromised.

Columbia, Brown, Iowa Endowments Lose 7.6%, 4.6%, 2.4% | Chief Investment Officer Falling markets and rising inflation take toll on endowment investment portfolios.

Barnard is my once cherished alma mater. I had no idea that Columbia invested 30% of its $13.4 billion endowment in hedge funds which tend to be predatory and hurt average investors. Plus I’m Jewish and appalled at how Jewish students were treated. No thanks.

Opinion | Why Did Elon Musk Go After Bunkers Full of Seeds? Gene banks are like a survivalist cache: our nation’s safeguard against all future challenges to growing the food we need.

Seed banks are a resource for the world, and some of the great food heroes have saved them during times of war and famine. It might be time for heroism like that again.
