i’d reboot the Ernest movies
in some ways it makes me a bit more forgiving of the movie’s use of biopic tropes, but also a bit cynical in other ways
but in this particular instance i’m thinking a lot about the filmmakers’ relationship with audience discomfort, intentionality, and education
i have a complicated relationship with the “bad things repeatedly happen to good people” genre of movie, & this is definitely a movie where the “oh god” moments come unexpectedly AND from a mile away
I Swear was tonight’s cineplex mystery movie premiere & while i have some thoughts about the filmmakers’ specific choices i’m ultimately very glad that i got surprised into watching an empathetic movie i wouldn’t have seen otherwise
it is national lima bean respect day

If you wish to learn about Canadian pop music this song should be one you listen to. And what you will learn from it is that Canadians in the 90s were horny. youtu.be/NuHeTxZxgSs
The whole thing around Geese & Chaotic Good brought to mind this nice article by the great @jenpkelly.bsky.social about Myriam Gendron's unusual way to critical and popular attention. Seems the roads less travelled sometimes lead to the right ears.

all those 1990s attempts at pulp hero movies landed with a thud but i think this actually might work out differently given the general fatigue with marvel/dc
