Tariffs! No tariffs!
Strait open! Strait closed!
Self-portrait of Alex, with concert info under the artist name "the_merlin". Flavortext: cozy & casual / mostly originals / beyond Space Songs (as I'll be playing only a couple of my favorite Space Song Sunday selections, among many others that rarely get an audience).
Doing a virtual concert on the fediverse this Thurs! It's part of a series by #NHAM, and will be live on #TIBtv.
Also trying to record it for my #MakerTube (the new home for Space Song Sundays!) ✨
Chill set, mostly originals 💙

You like videos of flickery low res displays that I assure you are 3D?
Here's a mechanically scanned lightfield.
A picture of a hardback book on a washed blue background. The title is Next Level: Making Games That Make Themselves, by Mike Cook.
I've written a book! Next Level: Making Games That Make Themselves is the story of procedural generation - the tech behind games like Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress. It's about how it works, the games that use it, and the art and magic behind it.
Out May 7th, in bookshops: linktr.ee/next_level 🎲🔮

Someone is bound to hunt down a copy and try to fix it.
Even if it was buried in a landfill.

I performed at Algorhythms again tonight, this time with the power of BLIT (thanks so much @eggg.uk!)

It comes out different each time I run though it because I keep forgetting to do something. I have of a new found respect for live coders.
My 2nd attempt at using #Strudel REPL (at flok.cc) for #liveCoding an old song to sound more techno like in those viral #AlgoRave videos.
It is not going so well today.

i can't believe they let us take over the V&A
If this looks or sounds fun - it's easier than you think! You don't need to know how to code, or how to make music, or anything else. You can just come along to an event and start learning the basics and take it from there. Find our next meet here: badlondon.events
Some photos from last night's algorave at the V&A Musem Friday Late. We played seven sets to thousands of people, many of whom hung around to watch multiple sets and brought loads of energy to the huge museum foyer.

Sal Mercogliano (What's Going on With Shipping) in a recent YouTube video update on the Strait of Hormuz does an impression of the FIFA Peace Prize Trophy which does resemble someone face palming
Trump does not think strategically, historically, geographically, or even rationally. He does not connect actions he takes on one day to events that occur weeks later. Allied leaders know that if they help him in the Gulf, he won't be grateful, or even remember

Even though electricity prices are being jacked up as well?
A burning tanker leaking oil into the sea and surrounded by undamaged yet impotent navy vessels would be just as demoralising an image
Tying up everyone else's military resources in the Middle East makes complete sense
US needs to keep their powder dry for the subsequent invasions of Cuba, Canada, and Greenland
But some consider the week starting on Sunday, while others consider Monday the start of the week.
If on a Sunday someone says "next Friday" which day are they referring to?
Just put the date in brackets after it to remove any source of confusion
This Friday (20th of March)
Friday after (27 Mar)
Don't worry.
They'll notice the sea level rising in good enough time to sell their mortgaged-to-the-hilt properties so that they can easily afford to move to higher ground.

A young barmaid behind the bar at the famous French nightclub Folies-Bergère is staring forward in a bored, introspective way. Behind her is a mirror which reflects the lively scene. At the top left you see the green shoes of a trapeze artists. More importantly, at right you see the back of the barmaid, and see that she is face to a man who leans close and seems to be requesting something. This is Manet's famous painting "A Bar at the Folies-Bergère": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Bar_at_the_Folies-Berg%C3%A8re
The perspective looks all wrong. You're staring straight at this barmaid, but her reflection in the mirror is way off to right. Even worse, her reflection is facing a guy who doesn't appear in the main view!
But in 2000, a researcher showed this perspective is actually possible!
