Even if we ignore the hedonic utility, we want them *spending their money in ways that go back into other businesses, supporting other workers and revitalizing community*.

Hot take: eating out and going on trips and buying nice clothes are economically virtuous activities according to conventional economic wisdom, especially compared to say, skyrocketing rent or insurance bills, and it is backasswards how we treat the two of them.
