This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Republicans are desperate to label peaceful and patriotic protests as anti-American. There is nothing more American than a joyous gathering of people peacefully telling their government they disagree. Our team is fanning out across CD-2. Join us. Bring your flag. @WellmanForMO #TeamWellman

Grandmother held by ICE over $25 bad check from 10 years ago: ‘This is wrong’ A grandmother in Missouri who has been in the United States for nearly 50 years is being held by ICE and faces deportation to Ireland.

“She’s been in this country 47 years, is married, with five kids and five grandkids, and you’re telling me she’s a flight risk?” he said.

Op-ed: Try again, President Kumar: Renewing calls for Tufts to adopt March 4 TCU Senate resolutions - The Tufts Daily The independent student newspaper of Tufts University

This is the op-ed Rumeysa Ozturk co-wrote in 2024 criticizing the Tufts administration’s response to student demands for action regarding Gaza and Israel. It is unquestionably speech protected by the First Amendment.

Trump and DOGE Propel V.A. Mental Health System Into Turmoil A chaotic restructuring order threatens to degrade services for veterans of wars in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Democrats need to make Republicans defend this publicly.

Make them go tomorrow on Sunday news shows and say cuts that degrade services for our veterans are necessary.

How a University Fights an Authoritarian Regime Viktor Orbán came for me. Donald Trump is coming for you. Here’s what to do.

"Mobilize your alumni networks. Enlist families whose children’s lives have been saved in your hospitals; reach out to companies that have commercialized your research, make contact with universities in red and blue states, public and private, who face the same threat. Do it fast."
