Listen I thought I knew how complicated doors could get but look at that door.

Look at all the metal bits and little wiggly things.

Very impressive door.

Comic. [Person and person with white hat facing two boxes stacked with $80 price tag and sale tag on each box.] PERSON 1: They want $80 for this? I could make one myself for $10 in parts, an hour of work, a trip to the hardware store, another $30 in parts, another few hours of work, two more trips to the store for $20 more in parts, another hour of work to redo the first hour of work because I messed up, and $80 to buy this when the one I made breaks.

I never thought I'd be excited to read threads on men's fashion, but Derek's takes are always interesting, well-researched and sourced, and ooze his care for his work

YES, sometimes I feel like the internet has collectively forgotten about the "___ ate my balls" memes, for a while I became convinced it was a one-off that I imagined was larger than it was.

But every now and then I stumble upon someone else who remembers them :D

Star Wars: "We don't serve their kind in here."

Me, a child: rude! Let the droids in!

Me, a teen: ah, this is a metaphor for racial segregation and slavery.

Me, an adult: ah, droids don't drink so it is his business to manage his space.

Me, now: YES! KICK THEM OUT! BURN THE JOB STEALING AI!

But putting all of that aside... $100k revenue is *nothing* in the context of making games

$100k revenue = roughly $50k to the dev, after Valve's cut + taxes

How many multi-person studios do you know that could survive after making $50k from their game launch? Not many!!

Cos graph is going up, right? So it must be good!

But hang on... it says "5,863 games". It does *not* say, "5,863 games that launched in 2025".

So what it's actually saying, is that of the nearly 150,000 games available on Steam, 5,863 of them (4% of them) made $100k in revenue in 2025.

I try not to do ranty threads anymore, but man, this Valve GDC graph has just rubbed me up unbelievably badly

This was presented as a good thing - "more games are finding success!" -- when actually the data has just been presented in a tricksy way to make it look like everything is fine

Zenodot — Find book translations across languages Discover book translations across languages. A documentary tool for readers worldwide.

I spent 4 months trying to answer a simple question: has this book been translated into my language?
Turns out no one tracks this. Not ISBN registries. Not Amazon. Not Google. Not libraries.
So I built a tool that crosses four databases to piece it together.
