What a sentiment from @calebgayle.bsky.social on knowing when research is done for a book. While discussing Black Moses (www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/717975...), Gayle describes it's when as writer he can offer people whose lives have been married by ugliness the gift of beautiful sentences-WOW!

Journalist @calebgayle.bsky.social’s new book is his first major work relying on nothing but the historical record and — he emphasizes — collaboration with historians.
His hope is that "there's greater mind share, skill sharing, content sharing" between journalists and historians in the future.
"Reformers like Elizabeth Rous Comstock were not animated by conquest, but earnest—and complicated—charity towards Black migrants."

In his new book, "Black Moses: A Saga of Ambition and the Fight for a Black State," journalist @calebgayle.bsky.social continues his exploration of murky histories, reporting a story that doesn't have straightforward heroes or villains.
