Sort of related, this book is a delight. Spendy and a thrill for those who enjoy the mechanics of book production, but still, a delight.

The reason capital Gs are handwritten that way
I always wondered why capital Gs were like that in handwriting. www.reddit.com/r/Handwritin...
Still my favorite meme of all time — without a doubt.
NEW: Stories about pardons are often about presidential power. But what about people on the other side of that grace? The Coulson family may never receive millions from a wrongful death lawsuit it won years ago. @jeremykohler.bsky.social
While we're doing maps, look at how much of Lebanon's farmland sits in the "Forward Defense Zone" which was also subject to this white phosphorus use.
You chose violence today — and every day.
I took the photos for this story by Aaron Short: “A lot of pornography dealt with power rather than erotic stimulation, and that power is what was interesting about pornography for men,” she said. “I wanted to make sexuality an empowerment for women rather than a disempowerment.”
I love contemporary fables with strong allegorical elements. Also enjoying the short chapters that allow for reflection.
Finally reading Ben Okri’s The Freedom Artist and it’s quite good, if unexpected.
An artist can’t paint their own body in an act of empowerment!?
I hate that Bluesky labels so many contemporary artworks, like these feminist paintings, as sexual and nude. Infuriating!
Frontal view of a major Joan Semmel painting in a museum gallery
Skewed view of Joan Semmel painting
Her “Mythologies and Me” (1976) might be one of my favorite artworks from the 1970s. Ambitious, wry, critical, and mind expanding.

A visitor taking a photo in the Joan Semmel retrospective in NYC
Her current retrospective at the Jewish Museum is really great.

Assemblage of paintings and sculptures in front of a large chapel space with stained glass window.
This wall of work is in front of the largest stained glass windows.
It’s true to life 😭
A light blue sculpture with horns on display in a historical chapel with people walking around
Rose-colored sculpture with knives in a historical chapel Gallery, along with other artwork and people standing about
A purple sculpture with horn in a stone arched doorway with other art visible on the left
Bony Ramirez has his sculptures on display in the historical chapel at Green-wood cemetery. The show is called El Cielo del Mar.
I have been too, but visually I really love em-dashes.
Extremely normal and fine for a company to put this in a public statement
Bulbous post

Happy National Garlic 🧄 Day! Greeks & Romans loved garlic—but Mesopotamians loved it 1000s of years before them. The Greek ἄγλις (Latin alium) is an Akkadian loan word. At Pompeii, there was even a garlic seller (aliarii) workshop ( 📸 by @pompei79.bsky.social): pompeiiinpictures.com/pompeiiinpic...
It’s one of those things now that if you use them, people will sometimes ask whether you used AI. It makes me so sad and angry.
The thing I will never be able to forgive LLMs for is how they ruined em-dashes for those of us who loved and used them for decades.
People standing around a mound in a park area
Apparently people will be welcome to pick flowers from those planted on the mound to place on the graves inside, but I need to confirm that with the artist. It feels so welcoming as a new addition to the cemetery & the large rocks placed around it invite contemplation & rest—love that the most.
A view of a related exhibition by Jean Shin of broken celadon shards, many of which are reconstructed into large vessels
There’s an associated exhibit in Green-wood’s new exhibition building.
Small celadon bowls were handed out with water and we placed mugwart inside and poured the contents onto the mound as part of the ritual.
Amount near the front gate of Green-wood Cemetery
Right hear the gate her offering honors trees that have lived and died at the Cemetery, transforming fallen trunks, branches, and leaves into a living memorial. It will be planted with flowers that will grow and people can pick to place on graves.
The artist leading a procession around the mound
Beautiful event today for Jean Shin’s new permanent artwork that is inspired by Korean tumuli burial mounds and it involves the creation of a living memorial at Green-wood Cemetery.
