With the Copernicus World Heritage Hub, developed by EUSPA, sites like Easter Island can be monitored through an interactive data viewer and tailored resources. From cultural heritage monitoring to risk and emergency management, the platform supports preservation and sustainable management.
Known as Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, this remote island bears witness to a unique cultural phenomenon. Settled by a Polynesian society around 300 A.D., it gave rise to a powerful and original tradition of monumental sculpture and architecture.
Designed by ESA and deployed by EUSPA together with Thales Alenia Space and Spaceopal, the station is equipped with highly precise, secure sensors. The site now joins Galileo’s network of remote stations and will be operated by the Galileo Service Operator (GSOp).
This week, a new Galileo Sensor Station entered into service on the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire following the completion of the site preparation activities by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management in November 2024.
