tfw simply turning the laptop off and back on helps >.<
tfw @pinkhatbeard.com rings you up to talk about the upcoming Rust release ;D
I'm *very* excited to report that we got initial funding and have hired our first Rust maintainers!
RustNL's Rust Maintainers Team starts out with two full time maintainers, one intern, and five part-time maintainers, now stably employed to continue their work on Rust! ๐

lastly here's a link to a page with the .ics for the meeting to add to your calendar!

interested in what's coming up?
check out the upcoming talks:

if you wanna catch up and get some links to parts of Eclipse OpenSOVD, check out the notes we took:
github.com/orgs/rust-si...
had some nice Q&A about what it takes to get your company interested in investing into using Rust, even in typically conservative industries like safety-critical (like Automotive)
- broke out into many smaller library crates
- has helped with wrangling complexity
- e.g. keep database operations isolated to a single crate, rest of the crates implement the traits from that one to allow for database access
- they used a heavily functional style
- a great fit with the tokio-rs streams they are manipulating
- a little trickier to get started with if new to the codebase
she then jumped into some of the Rust code and design decisions made:
- they embraced generics early on
- helps with swapping out parts of the system
- sometimes more challenging to get started for newcomers

huge thanks to Elena Gantner for coming out to share about Eclipse OpenSOVD in the @sdv.eclipse.org Rust SIG
Elena gave a representative demo about how the Classic Diagnostic Adapter (CDA) works, showing how it helps bridge the world between the "classic" UDS and the newer SOVD!
interested in getting a feel for previous meetings/their vibe/the notes?
check out a representative one from last time when Markus Hosch of BMW shared about challenges and solutions to C++ <=> Rust interop:

super cool to see Rust being picked up as the implementation language of choice more and more within Automotive and the Eclipse SDV
c'mon out to learn more and see how/why Rust is being used for this application
here's a link to the .ics to add to your calendar to join:
github.com/rust-sig/rus...
here's an example repo from the Eclipse OpenSOVD project that shows how they're using Rust for the adapter to UDS:
github.com/eclipse-open...
so! SOVD is intended to be interoperable/backward compatible with an existing standard for diagnostics called Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) as a better fit for the age of the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) with flexibility and scalability in mind.

have you ever heard of Service-oriented vehicle diagnostics (SOVD)? At tomorrow's @sdv.eclipse.org Rust SIG Elena Gantner of Mercedes Benz will share about OpenSOVD and its implementation in Rust
also excited to announce that we're going to have Andy Riexinger speak about the work we're doing in the Eclipse SDV Landscape Project at OCX this month!
if you haven't registered yet, check out to do so here:
www.ocxconf.org/event/2026/r...
this taxonomy of projects in the Eclipse SDV WG was then moved into a new project i'm co-lead of: Eclipse SDV Landscape
we're here on GitHub if you'd like to check out how we made this Integration Projects page and another up-and-coming effort:
github.com/eclipse-sdv-...
worked with folks from a broad array of backgrounds including Daniel Krippner, Christian Heissenberger, Thomas Fleischmann, Andy Riexinger, and Thilo Schmitt
first output was creating a taxonomy of projects and their purpose to help newcomers to the Eclipse SDV WG:

super happy to share that i got voted into my 2nd year on the Committer slot in the @sdv.eclipse.org's Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)!
it's been a roller coaster, one with more ups than downs. i got to meet a lot of stellar people and work to align us better to the TAC charter
hey, what's that? oh? a Safety-Critical Rust Consortium newsletter drop for March?

lastly, dropping a link to notes from our last talk by Markus Hosch all about challenges and issues that arose and were solved in doing Rust <=> C++ interop in a number of other ways:
github.com/orgs/rust-si...
and a link to our upcoming and previous watercooler-style talks:
github.com/rust-sig/rus...
if you'd like to hear Christof Petig walk through what he's done to enable Rust <=> C++ interop through WebAssembly, with the performance requirements in mind for embedded, come on out!
you can find the .ics on our meeting page here:
github.com/rust-sig/rus...
wasn't aware of this until about a year ago, but WebAssembly has gotten some real traction in embedded spaces!
big thanks to Chris Woods for giving me a walkthrough on this when I was investigating it and his warm welcome for some sessions in the Bytecode Alliance's SIG Embedded
screenshot showing upcoming Eclipse SDV Rust SIG talks, including Christof Petig's on "Inserting WebAssembly between C++ and Rust for Fun and Profit"
have you heard of WebAssembly? made you think it's only for the web? nope! Christof Petig will share about its use in embedded for Rust <=> C++ interop in an upcoming @sdv.eclipse.org Rust SIG meeting
maybe i gotta listen to some business speech on a podcast or something; anybody have recommendations?
in a casual context, i'm decently fine with finding that alternate word or turn of phrase to keep going
i spent a lot of time listening to radio shows/podast episodes with natural ways of speaking (read: literal years sometimes 24/7/365)
i mean that: i can follow perfectly fine anywhere from 1/2 hour to around one hour long meeting just fine
when it comes time to speak up in Japanese, if i need to get my piece across in business contexts this is where i struggle most
