Esmeralda Lopez, quoted in the article, says "It makes you rethink in history all those heroes.. The movement — that’s the hero.”
So many of us constantly caution against pedastaling. It harms us all - shielding from this kind of unspeakable violence to diminishing our collective responsibility.

I can feel Dolores' words deeply in my bones: "I kept a secret because I believed that exposing the truth would hurt the movement." It resonates for me.
Wishing everyone impacted by and reeling from this today much ease.
Dolores Huerta: "I have never identified myself as a victim, but I now understand that I am a survivor — of violence, of sexual abuse, of domineering men who saw me, and other women, as property, or things to control."
People are commenting about how this is about "powerful" men, but in a society that listens to men over women and girls, that treats the former as competent and credible, the latter as not, every man is empowered to abuse, and it happens at all levels and in all sectors of society.
I’m having a full body reaction to this news right now.
My kid goes to a school named after him. I want to throw up.
Spotted a steelhead salmon swimming in this beautiful creek in Healdsburg today. Watch closely and you’ll see it scoot by in the lower left corner.
Happy St. Patrick's Day, New York.
Steely Dan should be the soundtrack to every movie from here on out! First rule of cinema: write a scene that can be soundtracked to Babylon Sisters.
Has a moment to reflect. OBAA was fine as a movie if you ignore how underwritten and underused the Black women were. PTA is a good director so sure whatever. But Sinners was masterful. Vibrant. Layered. What an accomplishment from the entire cast and crew. I’m glad it exists.
That’s my kind of party!
My god they're talking about him like he's...a woman. How dare he have an agenda and stick to it. Why aren't his elbows...soft? (Though at least they can't say he should smile more.)
Screenshot from NY Mag feature on how much people make in NYC: "Bronx Day-Care Worker $31,000 $16,600 from day-care profits $14,400 from trainings and consulting Last year, I lost a lot of kids. I live in the Bronx, and a bunch of families in my neighborhood lost their child-care vouchers. We're talking about people who make as much as I do; most of the moms I work with are home health aides. They can't afford full-time child care. If I have 16 kids, I can pay myself for 40 hours of work. But last year, I didn't, and obviously I'm still doing the same amount of work. I've been running the day care out of my home for more than seven years. It's a profession I entered out of necessity and have stayed in out of passion. I pay for everything - food, cleaning supplies, toys - and we have to meet the same requirements as a large company in terms of paying for liability insurance, which can feel pointless in this industry. I mean, if something happens to one of my children, I lose my license. End of story."
Screenshot from NY Mag feature about how much people make in NYC: "Consultant $17,000,000 $9.5 million from consulting fees $7.5 million in stock in companies that went public The big-picture way that I make my money is consulting; that work covers my day-to-day. Separate from that, I had stock in a couple of companies that went public. Because I made money later in life, my tastes and needs are a lot simpler. I don't spend money on things like having multiple homes, or flying private, or watches, or boats. I make enough money that I do what I want and I don't think about it. I also don't believe in leaving my kids a crazy amount of money because everyone I know who has that is fucked up, so why would I do that to them?"
When people in the future ask what America was show them this
Whiteness is a way to package a variety of nationalities in a way that erases their individual identies and attempts to unify them in a culture of opposition to blackness. The racial identity is inherently pro-discrimination and deserves no sanctuary anywhere.
Doubly so for South Africa.

for those of you who werent adults during iraq, its hard to overstate how much the media loves war porn. they salivate over pentagon spin briefings. they love stories about all the bombs and how supposedly infallible they are. they love the notion of the commander in chief, in the situation room etc
I don’t even know anymore. War, the senseless murder of civilians, pedophiles in power, just a whole lot of fuckshit.
Scum leaders, scum nation.

We have received numerous credible reports of torture, killing, and inhumane treatment of detained individuals at the Camp East Montana migrant detention facility, located within Fort Bliss. #txlege
People need to realize that, along with citizens swept up in immigration raids, they have also detained citizens for being involved in activism.
