15% of fossil fuels extracted each year are used to make fertiliser, run farms, process foods and transport them. In a very real sense our food is made from oil and gas.
We are about to feel a very painful food shock.

In the face of unlawful aggression, war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, the EU has to be pushed.
To hold a discussion.
And maybe a review of the Israel association agreement.
Maybe.
The status quo will likely remain, which is complicity in extreme violations of international law.

This is a genuinely mindblowing combination. 1) Deliberately false information, 2) promoted in schools, 3) using public money, 4) in the service of private profits, 5) at the cost of our collapsing ecosystem.
“If Ireland is facilitating the monstrous ICE project, then we fear the government has lost its way. Rather than cower and capitulate, it must show courage, compassion, and principle”.

This is who Roger Randle is. And Munster hired him?!
As usual, there were not enough women in the room when that decision was made.

"Molly Quell’s deep sourcing and sustained coverage of the International Criminal Court led to an exclusive that set AP apart on a complex and sensitive global story."
The modern version of the Nuremberg war crime is "extensive destruction and appropriation of property, not justified by
military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly".
Video below shows one of several villages destroyed these past weeks.
"Extensive" hardly captures it.
For info: The process of accepting ICC jurisdiction started in April 2024 after Israel murdered the journalist Issam Abdallah www.newarab.com/news/lebanon...
But then Lebanon backtracked a month later. I have to assume they're going to reconsider it now. www.aljazeera.com/opinions/202...
When entire villages were destroyed in the Former Yugoslavia, after civilians were murdered, raped and expelled, the United Nations Security Council created an international criminal tribunal to hold the perpetrators to account.
Lebanon could give the International Criminal Court jurisdiction
Since Nuremberg in 1945, international law has established that the "wanton destruction of cities, towns or villages, or devastation not justified by military necessity" is a punishable war crime.
No serious international lawyer would deny that this is what Israel is doing in South Lebanon.
While many protesters in Ireland are complaining about fuel costs, far-right actors and international figures are using the movement to push anti-immigrant narratives.
Not a thought given to the trauma for the victim’s family and friends of her last moments being shared in this way.
Callous.

The only way to durably protect hauliers - and the economy - against fossil fuel shocks is to support them to electrify trucks.
Sales of electric trucks in China outsold diesel trucks last December.
So far this year, only one electric HVG was newly registered in Ireland.

The International Court of Justice's landmark decision last year said that states can be made legally liable for not acting on climate. “Too small to matter” is not a valid argument in favour of infrastructure projects. Courts can use this to compel stronger national action.
