So you reckon it would crush the whole USA car Industry? Did you feel what Chris Farley was talking about?

Yep. While I am free from all my direct fossil fuel use. Indirect purchases of food and products are not.

As a WA climate activist, this is because of us forcing the WA-EPA to read and respond to hundreds of submissions.

Out protesting the Woodside AGM this morning.

Most Bernie voters did because they are politically engaged and knew what was at stake

Many people felt that the Dem Party deliberately blocked Bernie's run (2x) in order to get their preferred candidate

Biden then didn't actually undo or prevent the worst of the Trump admin and Dems failed again

They can express their concern with a candidate as much as they like before the end of the primary. That is the point of the primary. You should not try to force people into making the choice now, or they will consider it predetermined and not participate in the process.

We are having a lot of that in Australia right now about the fuel situation. We will be perfectly fine on fuel if people don't panic and hoard it.

"Why won't the government do anything about the fuel crisis?"

There isn't a fuel crisis; it's just really expensive, not running out.

I love this card.

So I built a standard deck where I would self-mill and fling this as a joke, and for some reason, it was actually good.

Not exactly thriving, there were serious cost of living issues and massive inequality.

But there was growth and very high jobs numbers.

Of course Trump made everything worse, but people were obviously not happy with Biden/Dems performance.

The experts are unhappy that no one is listening to them and have built up resentment toward the populace to the point that many no longer believe in Democracy

We need to reconnect the people with the institutions, and the institutions with the people. It may be a deeply frustrating process

There have been decades of broken promises at this point.
People no longer believe in experts, and part of it is economic experts who didn't see 2008 coming and will talk up the stock market or GDP while everyone's quality of life has just gotten worse.

There is a deep scepticism of institutions

As a scientist, something you learn when interacting with the public is that people don't care about data, they care about narratives, hopefully about the data. Which is why science communication is a different disipline to science.

Or Australia...
So we organised to get a councillor at our local council, and he is working on getting some solar car parks up. It's just so much cheaper to put them on roofs, a few thousand with a 3-year payback period versus a couple of million for a carpark 15-year payback.

Reducing oil use by 88% would be a massive win.

Any car we buy comes from a foreign country.

I think it was less than 10% of all fossil fuel use, was my stat not oil alone.

I think a better way to put it is that plastics are a low priority. Oil extraction is a major source of methane, I admit that but most of that is burnt. So the primary goal is to reduce oil burning as quickly as possible.

I meant the feedstock. The energy can come from many places not just oil.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

As long as the oil isn't being burnt then it's not contributing to climate change, it is less than 10% of oil use.

Australian doesn't have any car companies so that's irrelevant.

The issue with that is people will drive on unsafe tyres just to avoid the tax or if they can't afford them right now.

All sales taxes are regressive hurting the poor, we need wealth taxes to target the right people.

I am a Gig worker (Chemistry Tutor). I am not leaving home, I just intend to inherit it at this point.

Part of the issue is that the Rich are very good at hiding their wealth, and they also own all the media, social and otherwise.

What do we do about the dickheads who use that as a way to oppress other people? That even seeing minorities in their video games seems to offend them

They have experienced dictatorships.. the USA is yet to. They know what is at stake.

Will you draft articles of impeachment in preparation for Democrats taking the senate in the mid terms?

The only way to prevent it is mass arrests and prosecutions for the many many many many many crimes of this administration.

Biden didn't arrest anyone, and they just came back

Even the standard nightly news was putting the focus on Iran's aggressive actions without pointing out that the USA started this war.
