Death is a cold blindfolded kiss!
It is the finger pressed upon our lips.
It puts an unwanted emphasis
On how we should have lived ~

For example, the buddha leaving his palace despite being a wealthy prince, husband, & father to seek enlightenment is authentic human being.

The thing that really, really matters for us in our “human being” is that we know there is a time when we will die. This means the possibilities towards us are finite. Our being is being thus concerned about our being.

Our being as humans is that we care about things in the world, and are ultimately united with the beings we care about, in our very caring. We can respond authentically or inauthentically to our situation, and modern society’s powers of conformity compel us towards inauthenticity much of the time.

But is also amenable to changes we make in it. There are situations before us which we did not choose, they allow us to do some things and not others. The way that humans have being is different from the being of other entities.

Beings-at-hand are signs that offer us the ability to do a new thing in the world. A hammer affords hammerability, a multivitamin offers micronutritional supplementation, etc. Being-in-the-world is The Human Condition (for Heidegger): dropped into a world that preceded & determined our beginnings,

It does not decompose back into so many affordances, it is rather meant to become part of the being of a human being, and I’m sorry, but I still don’t know what worldliness means. [2/2]

My attempt at a translation of the underlined sentence: The entity composed of numerous teleologically-aligned signs that have been bound up together across the world toward a final goal is broken apart when it is fulfilled and finished by a human being. [1/2]

$18. Being-bound-up-with and Signification
107
one constituting whatever arises in a workshop as at hand (its at-hand-ness), is "earlier" than any one individual instrument—in the same way as the wholeness of a farm is "earlier," with all its equipment, buildings, and fields. Yet the wholeness of being-bound-up itself ultimately comes back to a toward-which no longer having a bound-up-ness, one that is not itself a being having its being the way things at hand do within a world; rather, it comes back to a being whose being is determined as being-in-world, one to whose essential constitution worldliness belongs. This primary toward-which is not a for-something-else, not a what-for of some binding. The primary toward-which is a for-the-sake-of-which. And this "sake" always concerns the being of being-there— for which, in its very being, its being is at issue. For the moment we shall not pursue this inter-connectedness any further, one leading from the structure of being-bound-up to the being of being-there, i.e., to the authentic and single for-the-sake-of-which. Before doing this, we must clarify the "getting bound up" to such an extent that we can bring the phenomenon of worldliness into the focus necessary for detecting the problems regarding it.

[MY NOTE: H. will now attempt to “clarify”]

Ontically, letting-be-bound-up means this: within the course of some factical taking-care, letting something at hand be such-and-sucha — as it now is and so that it is such. We construe this ontic meaning of "letting be" in a fundamentally ontological manner. We thereby interpret the meaning of the precedental release of inner-worldly things as they are first of all at hand. To let something "be" precedentally does not mean to bring it into its being from scratch, to produce it; rather, it means to uncover something that already "is," to uncover it in its at-hand-ness, and uncover something that already "is," to uncover it in its at-hand-ness, and in this way to let the being

I’m reading Being & Time right now and I’m very ashamed to say I’m having a great time decoding Heidegger’s vocabulary and piecing together particularly difficult sentences.

I just read the cranium-eruptingly disgusting word “gnoseological order” in a paper that used thomas aquinas to critique heidegger’s critique of the “metaphysics of exodus” 🤯

No, I think this is more like very classic, old-school marxist theory. As industry becomes more developed and complex, the division of workers creates new complex cohorts across the span of production that produce a new revolutionary class consciousness and, eventually, do a revolution.

I successfully used this argument against a random campus evangelist who approached me the other day and I just now found out he was with a cult. Neoplatonism will literally save your life

I just read eriugena’s periphyseon and ngl it was quite often torturous but there’s some pretty cool stuff in there! I particularly liked his esoteric denial of heaven & hell & his doctrine that although all will be saved & the ungodly will be in the same situation as the saints, they won’t like it

Rubio reveals US launched strikes against Iran because of planned Israeli attack Top diplomat says US understood its assets would be hit by Iran in retaliation for a preemptive Israeli strike, even though Jerusalem seen as unlikely to have acted without Trump's blessing

Marco Rubio literally said they joined the war bc they knew Israel was going to attack Iran regardless and they felt they had no choice but to join and protect their own assets. www.timesofisrael.com/rubio-reveal...

If all other criticisms of capitalism lacked any grounding whatsoever, the simple fact that superbillionaires can purchase elections to destroy democracy and enrich themselves at the public’s expense would still hold
