Dismantling the myth that ancient slavery ‘wasn’t that bad’ There was no one type of slavery in ‘biblical’ or ‘ancient’ societies, given how varied they were. But much of what historians know about slavery during those eras is horrific.

I have to put up something for a first post, so why not? This quilt, finished just a few weeks ago, is one of my proudest achievements. It’s called “Wrath”. It’s based on my very favorite poem, Homer’s Iliad.

Historic Rochester Black newspaper finds new home online For 63 years, Howard W. Coles was editor and publisher of the Frederick Douglass Voice.

"A Rochester newspaper that highlighted issues and accomplishments in the Black community during some of the city’s most turbulent times is now available online. The Frederick Douglass Voice was published from the 1930s to the 1990s."

Found the cursed item in the local antiques mall:

It's ok to prioritize your own health and look after your own needs.
It's ok to wear a crown made of ancient bones.
It's ok to build steam powered mechanical wolves to protect your yard from unusually large squirrels.

Around the third haranguing email about how the hiring committee wasn't moving fast enough over spring break while I arranged a scholarship program, taught, finished a review and multiple articles, wrangled a library committee, it crystalized that I was done with the field.

"Men say, "we're so lonely." Well, you might be lonely because you suck to be around."

There is a strong, strong undercurrent of "nobody recognizes my genius" in hate movements, especially now.
