One of my stories in Gooday Nagar was published in The Bombay Literary Magazine. Read 'Ringa Ringa Roses' here for free :)
Clearly, the school she went to gave her an imagination that is 'taxed' easily!
I have been rolling my eyes (when I'm not laughing) at pretty much every line in the 'review'. But it's not sour grapes. If it didn't speak to her, it didn't speak to her even if it is not hard to see why.
Her imagination is taxed by the idea that O Henry's story Gift of the Magi is taught in school to 12 year olds. It was in fact part of the Karnataka State Syllabus 7th Std English Reader when I went to school in the 90s, and the story is drawn from experience.
An 'underwhelmed' reader who totally missed the point of my book 😂
Should I start writing flat stories with sentimental titles and a 'message'? Nah... I'll continue to imagine an intelligent reader. Ill-advised optimism has always been the need of the hour.

A friend in Canada bought a copy of #GoodayNagar. It must have been difficult and expensive to import it all the way from India. I'm so touched by this kind gesture. Thank you, Jason!

Two years ago, my debut novel 'Sylvia' was translated into Russian. I am yet to see a copy because the largest country in the world wants more land and has been m*rdering people to get it.

I was interviewed by Book Brahma where I spoke about my journey as a translator and writer, and my first Kannada novel Hettavara Neralu. One of the questions asked to me was how I found my way to Kannada through English. Here is what I said.

‘I chose to set my stories in my idea of the city as a metropolis of time rather than space.’
@maithreyikarnoor.bsky.social talks to Platform Magazine about urban anxiety, shifting cityscapes and humour as a tool to make sense in the modern world. Read: www.platform-mag.com/literature/g...

Is it a remote position?
It's daffodil season again and I thought I'll share a poem from my forthcoming collection in honour of my Welsh man.

In the celebration of 'bad' writers and bad 'writers' what suffers is literature.
Congratulations and best wishes.

I'm afraid I'm no longer in India. But all the bookshops on Church St have signed copies. Thanks for your interest. Looks like we share the first two syllables of our names :)
Plugging an year-old article because my bio on it said Gooday Nagar was 'forthcoming'. It is published now 🙂

The best part is I was among friends. Thank you all for braving the Bangalore traffic and being there for me ☺

Congratulations on the book! Hope the happy hormones help you heal soon.
It's still warm to the touch -- like the jalebies and gulab jamoons Jayesh's mother ate as a cure for her diabetes :)
