We need about 100 more studies like this one before we begin to think about using genAI in edu.

As a school technology director, I've been thinking a lot about the generative AI hype machine. I wrote a new blog post to try to sort out my thoughts:

ABA is not a "treatment" for autism. It is conversion therapy that teaches us how to ignore our own internal cues to appear less autistic in public. The vast majority of autistic adults advocate against it & studies show ABA leads to higher rates of suicidality & autistic burnout later in life.
Ever wondered what dyslexia feels like to a 6th grader?

I'm teaching my 5th graders how to use drills and drivers right now. We're going to build a greenhouse and grow some vegetables. This is better than AI. Human hands making real things. I will not be 'integrating AI into my curriculum.' #maker #making

The way AI is being pushed on educators is enough to make me suspicious alone. I don't trust techbros & corporations that try to aggressively dictate what goes on in classrooms. I trust teachers. It's that simple. #EduSky

Butternut squash standing up with a worried face drawn on it and little worried hands clasped across its tummy.
This butternut squash had two little dings that looked like eyebrows so spouse drew a worried face on it. The squash looks really worried. I give it a little pat whenever I walk by and tell it everything is going to be okay. #anxiety
