I was reviewing a short story I wrote in 2019 recently and it's good, solid writing but I definitely wouldn't write anything like it now.
When/why do you retire an older piece?
For me it's mainly down to quality and whether it still reflects my values.

Sometimes they're on my face. You'd think the fact that I can barely see without them would make it obvious, but no. . .
That sounds amazing!
Ah, yes, the "Do I double down and try harder or do I just abandon it like I did with the last three hobbies" point.
Since when do five year olds need a common spoken language to play with each other in a park?
Sassy ladies who just stepped out of a 1930s screwball comedy.
Probably way more, but Remember WENN is the first one that pops into my mind.
It's glorious!
Congratulations!
A pink background decorated with rainbows and dashed lines in the colors of the lesbian pride flag. The text reads, “Lesbian Visibility Week Bundle; 94 sapphic & lesbian books for $40 USD; 4/20 - 4/26; exclusively on Itch.io”

Close up of box for a paper doll called "Magic Mary Jane". Mary Jane is a pretty blonde girl in some fabulous 1970s looks. She is "Magic" because her clothes are secured with magnets.
They absolutely knew what they were doing.
Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die was a really fun, sweet, touching, and silly read in all the best ways.

I'm convinced these folks don't live in reality. Or they're using the AI to help them figure out "real life" applications of AI.
Which, now that I think on it, that second one may actually be the case.

Yah! Congratulations!
Ah, yes, the "I would never say a slur to you but it's funny when directed at a terrible person" crowd. Nevermind that the terrible person pretty much never hears it, but your friend, who asked you not to do it - they do.
Sigh . . .
At least they admit they're delusional?
A poster, featuring an illustrated portrait of Aubeline de Sterraux from A LEGACY OF BLOOD AND BONE. She is a white woman with brown hair tied in an intricate hairstyle. She wears a black dress with puffed sleeves and white earings. Aubeline is shown kneeling and praying, her head looking up. The top of the poster is colored, and the bottom part is black and white, the two part being separated by a red stain reminiscent of blood. The title of the book is in the center. Underneath is more text reading "A novel by Millie Abecassis," then a quote by April Yates reading "A gothic gem, rich with dread, desire, and a magic system as haunting as it is original." Under the quote are the names of several characters, listed as if they were actors: Aubeline de Sterraux, Vinnie Anneton, Damarisse de Sterraux, and "unhinged dudes." At the top are Cannes festival-style quotes reading "dangerous body-based magic" and "slow-burn sapphic romance."
Can't wait for Franchaela in Bridgerton's fifth season? While you wait, shall I suggest my sapphic historical fantasy filled with family drama, dangerous magic, and so much yearning?

You know what's fucked up? When you follow the rules of a program the letter, receive grant money, and then have that grant money ripped from you for no fault of your own. That's what happened to my buddy @rhaven.bsky.social. Chip in a few bucks to prevent financial disaster?

I don't care if this might aid in avoiding my many and varied food sensitivities. I do not trust it won't straight up recommend something that will make me sick. I mean, I don't trust humans entirely either on this matter, but still.
Figuring out when, or even if, a reader needs to know something is a huge part of my revision process.
