First panel: a man lies on the couch in a therapist’s office. He says “I feel like I’ve finally learned to silence my inner critic when I’m writing.” The therapist replies “And yet you’re still having difficulties?”

Second panel: The man answers”I think that’s down to my outer critic”. We can now see that a man with a loudhailer is sitting on filing cabinet. He shouts “No, it,s cosyou’re a rubbish author.”

I popped onto BlueSky for the Archers thread. First up on my timeline was this - could not resist a further dive into the threads. Forty years after I graduated in computer science and the BBC is still writing this tosh about women and STEM

I have written to my Tory MP rather a lot. I only ever get a reply on subjects where their minions can do a cut and paste job which in most cases doesn't address the points I made and is usually why the government is right and I am not!!

Chris Grey has a particularly strong and important entry in his #brexit blog where he forensically addresses the #covid19 enquiry as a stark, depressing and vivid illustration of the calamities of #brexit. Some points to summarise:

My maternal grandfather fought in WW1 and spent some of the war recovering from an injury. He never, ever spoke of his experience. Paternal grandfather didn't fight in WW1 on health grounds (I think he had TB). I don't know what he did then but was air raid warden in WW2 & lived to be 100. I am old!

Absolutely this - and if you are on your own write down anything you might need to refer to later. On a first appointment it is easy to be overwhelmed by what you are being told. Hope it all goes well

Title: Halloween Horror

An upper tier of images labelled "Horrifying" and a lower tier labelled "Utterly Horrifying"
The first column has a floating skull above, and a floating skull who borrows books and never returns them below.
The second column has an evil fog above, and an evil fog with some really awful opinions below. (the fog is saying "we've got the internet so we don't need libraries")
The final column has a slime fiend above, and a slime fiend who browses bookshops then buys online below.

A Man with a Stick! (1950s Ordnance Survey Revision Point Photographs) A fantastic set of photographic images scanned from a set of extremely rare Ordnance Survey "Revison Point" books in our collection. Mostly from 1953 and 1954, these previously unseen and un...

Just stumbled across this amazing gallery on Flickr showing the process of revising the Ordnance Survey, but also a series of snapshots of Swindon in 1953/4 with relics of the War, prefabs (lots of prefabs), bins, new housing - which @municipaldreams.bsky.social will enjoy - and much else.

Interesting. Our favourite coffee shop changed hands a couple of years ago - the sisters had been running it for nearly 50 years. I asked OH whether he went there for coffee in the early '70's and he said he did. I also had a coffee filter machine which I think I got in the late '70's!

Went through similar a couple of weeks ago (as I am also old). Rest up and drink plenty of fluids - I wasn't advised this, but apparently it helps. Hope it all passes soon
