Mark Evanier details all the original art that was stolen from him. Woof. So much Kirby (no surprise).
He reveals the thief was someone he has known for a long time.
Poor Mark. Hope he recovers his collection.

OMG ! This dude recorded tens of thousands of shows in Chicago in the late 80s and early 90s and beyond --
like Shonen Knife when they were playing on campus, the Sugarcubes in 1987, amazing audio treasure trove:
That mouse will get his due one day
How can anyone forget Poob when they had the original Goncharov? And the Muppets Goncharov?
"If it's not on Poob, it's on Zangle. And if it's not on Zangle, then you know it's on Snurt. And if it's not on Snurt, you probably shouldn't be watching it!" as the saying goes
That said, I see a number of antifascists with otherwise impeccable credentials stay there because it's free and easy :(

For people with a larger readership/who get money from their subscribers, I also send them the article about Substack changing their payment model where their subscribers are captive to substack and they wouldn't be able to move off without losing subscribers in the future.

I take two tacks... when I see friends talk about starting a substack, or see they've just started one, or they have really aligned politics, I send them a couple articles describing the problems, especially a more recent "they're still at it" one.

A small, rectangular, weathered wooden pocket sundial with finely carved concentric circles and hour markings surrounding a deep circular recess in the center, where a compass once sat, all shown against a black background.
A late medieval pocket sundial from Freiburg. The portable sundial once contained a small compass in the circular recess, helping to align the sundial along the north–south axis so the correct time could be determined.

came to post the exact same thing :)
A detailed close-up photograph of a limestone relief plaque featuring an owl face. The owl has large, circular eyes with intricate dotted borders, a prominent curved beak, and decorative patterns around the eyes and neck, set against a plain gray background.
It has been quite a week! We all need a timeline cleanse.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Event Horizon by Balsam Karam and from @feministpress is an exquisite existential novel, dark as deep space, woven with reflection on oppression, solidarity, trauma, and loss.

Sometimes you write and publish a very strange book and have no idea how to talk about it, and sometimes someone nice comes along and writes about it in a way you didn't know how to. Thank you @tuckerlieberman.com for your lovely review of Rainbear!!!!!!!!! tuckerlieberman.medium.com/strange-fict...
Wood chips for "green" power in the UK! It's pretty obscene. They're done doing that now though.
Snoopy typing "It was a dark and stormy night. Suddenly a shot rang out. The maid screamed. A door opened. Suddenly a pirate ship appeared on the horizon" then he smiles and says "This twist in the plot will baffle my readers"
Oh my god, this is so cool. It must feel incredibly cool when your kid out-nerds you in an area you both have interest in. 11/10 parenting, no other notes, have a very great Friday
Rundell is also a treasured writer of children’s books. Her “Impossible Creatures” Series Books One and Two are amazing to read aloud.
Writing of the shark’s meat the author says, “They become safe only if the meat is buried for several months and left to ferment, then hung out to dry for months more. Served in small chunks, and known as hákarl, it is considered, by some, a delicacy, and by others an abomination. Apparently it tastes like a very ripe cheese, left for a week in high summer in a teenage boy’s car.”
And it only gets better
