Long form, critically needed analysis on the effects the war with Iran has already had on the economies of several Asian countries, putting decades of economic and democratic(ish) growth at risk of quick collapse. Gift link article from today’s NYT: www.nytimes.com/2026/04/20/w...
We got one of theirs too— it’s fugly, but it has held up well and I love it for movie nights. We got one that is a wall hugging plug in reclining sofa—even fuglier than the others, but it works great and fits our small space.

if you want any oil or fuel price posts myth busted, screen shot and post them. Don’t interact with them, it builds the hype for lies and misinformation and if you interact with it, it boosts the visibility of bullsh*t
Thanks for continuing to follow USPS policy. I live in a remote, rural area where USPS is a literally a lifeline. Mail pharmacies are critical here as we’ve several lost full-time medical professionals and facilities in our region. Our local economy also heavily relies on USPS.
#AntiquesRoadshow had an excellent appraisal of a signed copy of this famous photo. www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadsho...
A ginger cat sits on a book shelf expectantly as he sniffs and inspects a LEGO bachelor button blossom presented to him.
On this #caturday I am building a LEGO wildflower bouquet and this sweet face is my assistant.
You know it’s gonna be bad if you’re watering the waterwise, native plants in the garden in April…
The hail was brief, but we had enough to cover the deck—pea sized, but it still made a racket on our roof when it fell. Spring in Taos—one neighbor gets rain, next door it’s hail, and the guy across the road gets nada.
Wasn't it amazing to step outside and breathe in the grateful smell of sage after that rain? We had a giant, full rainbow after the hail in El Prado.
No Lilies For Kitties is a great band name.
Feeling this so, so much in Northern New Mexico right now. Yes, we got a few tenths of an inch of rain this week, but the monsoon season is a long, long way off...

We have received wonderful artwork from the community for Southside Library's #MailArtShow, including adorable pieces from Ms. Tammy's Pre-K class at Nye Early Childhood Center! It's not too late to send in your artwork and be a part of this gorgeous show for the month of April!
Would like to see a comically long, vaudeville style hook pull him off stage.
The rain today is so beautiful! My perennial, native plants are already up, and were so, so thirsty.
I'm also kind of thinking that this cheese bread might be tasty in a New Mexico-Minnesota cuisine fusion if one spooned some Hatch 505 green chile on top...
Yeah, the cinnamon bread with cheese whiz is a bit too celebratory for a funeral. I’ve only had it at baby showers, 4-H club meetings, and graduation open houses. I recall liking it as a special treat as my mom would never buy cheese whiz (probably for the best, tbh)
End page from the Our Daily Bread cookbook published by the good people of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Canby, Minnesota, first printing (of at least five known printings) from 1979. This is a conversion chart that shows the volunteers cooking in the church's basement kitchen how much meat, vegetables, desserts, salads, coffee/tea and shortcakes are needed to serve 50 people. It lists 5 different ways to quantify potatoes at scale depending on if they are mashed (2 pecks), boiled (1.5 pecks), creamed (10 pounds), escalloped (10 pounds) or chips (2.5 pounds).
Recipe for Good Meat Hot Dish submitted to the Our Daily Bread St. Peter's Catholic Church cookbook (1979) by Mrs. Ray Hoffman and found on page 210. Mrs. Hoffman notes that the recipe is in quantities ready to serve 250 people, which means it can be adapted for and served at funerals, weddings, graduation open houses, and family reunions. 2 lbs Spry (a brand of vegetable shortening) 15 lbs spaghetti (macaroni shaped is preferred-- "spaghetti" was the all-purpose word used by my region's people for any kind of Italian noodle) 2 stalks celery 4 large bottles catsup (or ketchup) 12 large cans tomato soup 12 large cans vegetable & beef soup 3 large cans tomato juice 3 large cans V-8 Juice 50 lbs. hamburger 4 lbs. onions Salt & pepper Directions: Finely chop the onion and celery; brown with the hambruger in the Spry. Cook the spaghetti in SALT WATER (emphasis in original) until soft but not done; drain. Mix together the soups, catsup and juice; heat. In a large roaster, combine meat mixture, spaghetti and soup mixture. Heat in slow oven 1.5-2 hours and only stir once every hour. Too much stirring makes spaghetti mushy.
Consulted my home parish's church cookbook from 1979 which helpfully lets you know how much meat, vegetables, desserts, salads, coffee, and shortcakes to prepare to feed 50. Also included the recipe for Good Meat Hot Dish that feeds 250 from the same cookbook. Descriptions in alt text.
Consider adding Southwestern Minnesota Cookie Salad and "funeral hotdish" (macaroni noodles, canned peas, tomato sauce, and hamburger--sometimes included canned cream of mushroom soup because why not?) to your research. Those two dishes and ham buns with butter are church basement staples.
I've never seen this served at a funeral or with olives, but cheese whiz on cinnamon swirl bread was served at 4-H meetings of my youth, placed next to a bowl of Southwestern Minnesota Cookie Salad (buttermilk, cool whip, vanilla pudding, fudge stripe cookies, and--GASP--canned mandarin oranges).
6th generation Minnesota farm kid hot take: I don't know what fancy Midwestern funerals they're talking about here as I've never seen my people put olives on anything (Pimentos? Yes. Olives? No). Cheese whiz on cinnamon swirl bread was the usual snack at the 4-H meetings of my youth.
Today's MPR show with Angela Davis is a conversation with faith leaders about their resistance to Metro Surge and it's really worth listening to. I'd especially recommend it to faith leaders out of state.

At this point, I'm genuinely hoping for our country's collective dignity that there aren't any nudes leaked as a part of the stolen Kash cache.
The whole mannerist representation of "Jesus as man-boy" is taken to new lengths in this painting. That Christ Child has buns of steel!
