Motown girl group Martha and the Vandellas not only recorded an anthem for the civil rights era – they fought for fair pay and proudly called themselves divas Classic songs ‘Nowhere to Run’ and ‘Dancing in the Street’ captured the revolutionary spirit of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s.

Wrote a piece about Martha and the Vandellas, civil rights, and their place in the history of Black women R&B groups. I also created a YouTube playlist (in the comments) with some of their hits

FBI agent Denise played by David Duchovny and Dale Cooper, played by Kyle Maclachlan, Twin Peaks 1990

David Duchovny played a transgender woman, Denise, on Twin Peaks in 1990 and when greeting Cooper, the show's protagonist, she says, "I prefer Denise, if you don't mind" and Cooper responds with "OK" and her identity is settled within a couple seconds and was a non-issue, 36 years ago.

BLM Announces Plan to Fell Oregon's Last Great Forests There's a kind of forest in western Oregon that you feel before you understand. The BLM just gave the timber industry permission to tear it all down.

Time sensitive: this is the last day to submit comments opposing the Bureau of Land Management's clearcutting of Oregon's ancient forests. This is a tool that educates you on just how diabolical it is, and it helps you submit your comment. morethanjustparks.com/oregon-old-g...

The world needs men to get out of the man box. The problem is that they have been conditioned to exist in a tiny, confined definition of masculinity that brings suffering upon themselves, their families, and their communities. There is a way out of the man box. It's grounded in healthy psychology.

Northern California’s first condor egg in 100 years reported in redwood tree

Northern California’s first condor egg in 100 years reported in redwood tree

Who COULDN’T use some good news? ‘ Scientists with the Yurok Tribe say that two of dozens of condors released to the wild in Humboldt County since 2022, to reestablish the endangered birds, have paired up, built a nest in a redwood tree and appear to be tending to an egg.”

Angled-down image of a frog perched on a brown leaf and facing left. The frog's principal ground color is black, with yellowish-white stripes running from the nose through the eye and down the back to the legs. A second stripe runs along the lower jaw, terminating at the front legs. The legs are a light brown and there is a triangular flashmark of bright yellow at the top of the thigh. The frog also has some dark brown blobs attached to the lower back - four tadpoles, hanging on until the male frog can transport them to a suitable source of water.

Know what doesn't suck right now, or ever? Nature. This Pale-striped Poison Frog (Ameerega hahneli) was hopping across an open area at our NE Peru field station, on his way to find a suitable wet place to deposit his tadpoles (such as the axils of a bromeliad). #herps #frogs #NaturePhotography 🌿

Hey I saw that you were able to use this in your piece. Great piece too! Stakes out a strong position that is neither Blob/primacist nor CATO/Quincy pessimist.

This is Zephyr. He is a professionally trained bed bug detector. When he recognizes the scent of live bed bugs, he gives an alert by sitting and smiling exuberantly at his handler. We're pretty sure no one has ever been more excited to find bed bugs in their life. 13/10 (TT: emmercrew)

Guinea Worm Disease Reaches All-Time Low: Only 10 Human Cases Reported in 2025 Only 10 human cases of Guinea worm were reported worldwide in 2025, the lowest number ever recorded, bringing the ancient disease closer than ever to eradication.

This is a horrific disease. Jimmy Carter spearheaded the effort to eradicate it.

Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.

A month into my new job, my first real scoop.
Exposing thousands of babies to “a significant risk” of hepatitis B “in a low-income country with limited health care resources” would be “wildly unethical and a disgraceful use of American taxpayer money,” @angierasmussen.bsky.social said.

Shocked by the awful death of Rob Reiner. I spoke with him for over an hour last night. We talked about his work and his plans for the future. I always enjoyed his company. We met at his Dad's in 1975. Last thing he said to me was "See you next year.." Such a terrible end. Such a sweet man.

They wisely note that "If Mr. Trump does pursue regime change in Venezuela, he will have to stay with it until the end..."

Anybody have a figure on how long regime change takes? Probably a long time... like a year?
