I am presenting my research into an unidentified gravestone maker I’ve dubbed "the Old Dunstable carver" on 4/18/26 at the spring meeting of the Association for Gravestone Studies @ the Woods Memorial Library, 19 Pleasant St., in Barre, MA, starting at 10 am.

I strongly believe he was Henry Geyer.

Gravestone of Elizabeth Ireland, d. 1738; Granary Burying Ground, Boston.

I believe the carver is William Codner, of Boston.

13/END Lastly, here’s my dice box. Probably meant for Tarot cards, I picked it up in Ames, IA in the late 1990s.

A few years back, i had packed it away in our old garage and an enterprising beetle of some kind tried to eat the box and, I suspect, died due to ingesting lacquer. Need to patch that.

12/ My latest acquisitions, purchased when my kids ask me to run some D&D this Christmas. As a special surprise, the purple d20 contains glow in the dark elements.

7 d6. 3 yellow with radiation symbol replacing 1; 3 in other colors with Metamorphosis Alpha logos instead of 6 on 2 and 1, for some odd reason on the other. Lastly a rounded white d6 I think was part of set due to shape.

I really like the colors of the 3 MA dice.

Purple with gold print d6 from Arkham Relic Hunter board game from Squamous Studios. Note the elder sign as the 1.

A clear red plastic d6 with a white d6 inside, making it a 2d6. No idea where I got this novelty.

11/ Two from Kickstarters and one I’ve forgotten the origins of…

First, dice from the Metamorphosis Alpha kickstarter. Note ‘MA’ on 3 of the dice & radiation symbol on others. Not certain white is from that set.

Next is a die from Squamous Studios’ Arkham Relic Hunter game.

Last, a novelty 2d6.

10/ An incomplete set given to my wife by our GM when she joined our Call of Cthulhu game back in the late 90s while we lived in Iowa. Not sure where the others ended up.

That campaign was where I played Winston Pierce, the dilettante detective whose name became my Yog-Sothoth.com member name.

9/ I know I picked up these blue dice before I graduated high school but not exactly when. They are very rounded - the d20 often rolls off the table - and the d10 cracked and broke into pieces not long after purchase.

8/ Miscellaneous dice, probably acquired 1985-1992. I don’t have clear recollections of where these came from. The clear red and green ones I think were a lost & found find at the hobby shop while the white ones I got out of a ¢25 die bin at a convention when I needed spares.

7/ While AD&D was my first love, I was fortunate enough to have a local hobby shop where I played /dozens/ of different RPGs. One of those was Vampire: the Masquerade, for which I got this set of dice to bolster my d10s.

Fun fact - these later became my go-to % dice for Call of Cthulhu.

6a/ If anyone has an idea what this red dodecahedron was for, I’d love to know.

It is numbered 1-10, twice, but one of the 1s is instead a capital A.

A mixed set of crystal style dice. 3d4, a d6, a d8, and 5 d20s. Two of them are numbered 1-10 twice. The orange d20 seems to often roll very well. I hope that old party is doing well.

6/ Now for some drama.

The adult group I was lucky enough to join - and which imbued in me a love of the roleplaying side of RPGs - imploded when the primary GM’s wife had an affair with one of the players. In the aftermath I ended up with some of her dice, a jumble of colorful crystal types.

10 six-sided dice of varying sizes. One is clear and red with white pips while the others are white with black pips.

5/ During this period I also was fond of buying old board games at yard sales. As far as I remember these d6s were culled from those sets to be used in many fireballs and lightning bolts.

A set of “smokey quartz” dice. No idea how I ended up with 3 d4s, 2 d12s, and a single d20. I usually played a magic user so maybe I stocked up for Magic Missile spells?

4/ I talked my way into a group of adult gamers around 1988 when I was 14. I met some of them via community theater and I was eager to look “grown up” since I realized my presence was conditional on not acting like a 14 year old.

I guess that explains these blah smokey quartz dice I got then.

3/ A mysterious pair! I got both in Columbus, OH circa 1987.

The die was from a hobby shop - Citadel Games? - and had a logo for the shop on one face. Within a couple years all the print wore off.

It was free with purchase.

The mug was a souvenir from Kahiki, a Polynesian restaurant nearby.

6 worn blue plastic dice - a d4, d8, 2 d10s, and 2 d12s.

Next up, my blue dice from the Expert set. I recall these were lighter feeling than the basic set and I preferred the red ones. One of the d12s might have been a random pick-up (the color is off) but I can’t recall which one. 2/

As an exercise to shake off some writer’s block, here’s a history of my small dice collection, 1/ :

The first group came from my 1983 D&D red box. Colored them myself with the crayon provided. Only 3 have survived the intervening 4 decades. Did dice get bigger?

I still wish Bargle ill.

New quest! I'm looking for a copy of Cthuloide Welten #6. Really, I'm looking for a clean enough scan or photo of the "Interview mit Keith Herber" on pages 79-81 that I can feed it into OCR, Google translate it, and have it make sense.

Would love crisp photos of those pages if you have them!
