Posts by Yvette Clarke for Congress

Today, I launched my reelection campaign for Congress.

These are trying times. Prices are up, our democracy is under attack, and we have a President dragging us into a reckless war of choice.

But I’m ready to fight back and serve the people of Brooklyn.

When we fight, we win!

I’m proud to be born and raised in Brooklyn—and it’s the honor of my life to fight for the community that raised me.

Grateful to City & State NY for highlighting my work. I’ll keep fighting everyday to deliver for the people of Brooklyn and communities across this country.

I’m also proud of Rep. Robin Kelly and the campaign she ran.

Sometimes you lose races, but her leadership continues to shape our party’s future.

We stand ready to help Lt. Governor Stratton succeed and deliver for our communities.

I want to congratulate Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton on becoming the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Illinois.

This is a significant moment that calls for unity, and I look forward to her victory in November and welcoming her to the Congressional Black Caucus.

Congratulations to Adrienne Adams on becoming Governor Kathy Hochul’s running mate for Lieutenant Governor.

A mom, a grandmother, and a battle-tested leader as former NYC Council Speaker, she’s ready to deliver for New York families. This is the leadership we need in Albany!

New York’s history was shaped by trans leaders like Marsha P. Johnson and so many others who fought for freedom long before it was safe. On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor the lives stolen by hate and stand firm in protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of every trans person. #TDOR

The administration wants applause for ending a shutdown they manufactured. Please. They showed us exactly what happens when people who resent government try to run it. The CBC will continue to fight for stability, dignity, and the communities they neglect. #CBC

Graphic with bold text that reads: "Fund the government. Fix the health care crisis. Put working people first."

Working people are lining up at food banks nationwide. Federal workers have been locked out of jobs or not paid for a month. All this suffering so the Trump admin and their allies in Congress can break the Affordable Care Act.

Let them hear from you!

The Republican agenda: Make America Hungry Again.

A $186 BILLION cut from SNAP.
Lapse in benefits for over 40 MILLION Americans.
Only partially funding the SNAP program.

It’s just plain wrong.

Early this morning, our city still plunged into darkness, I set off to walk the Brooklyn Bridge.

As the sun came up, we were joined by canvassers, labor leaders, elected officials, and working people — a movement to bring a new day to our city.

Tomorrow, we win it together.

On Saturday, I joined my fellow New Yorkers in the streets of Manhattan to make one thing clear: Tyranny and liberty cannot live in the same house. Today and every day, we say No Kings. #NoKings

Today on #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we honor the strength and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples across this nation. Indigenous people are the foundation of this nation, not a footnote to it, and their voices and history must be centered, valued, and respected today and every day.

Happy #NationalComingOutDay! Today we celebrate bravery, authenticity, and the power of living your truth. To everyone who has come out or is thinking about it: you are seen, you are valued, and you are loved.

Mifepristone has been safely used for 20+ years to help people manage abortions and miscarriages. So why are Republicans STILL coming for it?

It was never about “health,” it’s about control. I’ll never stop fighting for bodily autonomy and women’s rights.

Trump and Hegseth want to turn our cities into “training grounds”? Let’s be clear: our neighborhoods are not a backdrop for your authoritarian cosplay.

We’re communities, not props. Keep your army out of our streets.

This is what Trump and Republicans do. They don’t get their way so instead of turning to good governance, they put critical projects and thousands of jobs at risk.

Our communities deserve investment, not political retribution.

The GOP owns this shutdown. This isn’t just political games. It’s hurting real people by threatening healthcare, paychecks, and vital services.

I stand with my Democratic colleagues to say: We won’t yield to this cruelty. Americans deserve better.

From 13 original members, the CBC has grown to 62 members nationwide, nearly half of whom are women, continuing the vital mission started by Shirley Chisholm and others, pushing justice, equal rights, and meaningful representation for Black Americans and marginalized communities.

Founders like Shirley Chisholm and John Conyers made bold moves – including boycotting President Nixon’s 1971 State of the Union after he refused to meet with them — setting the tone for decades of advocacy.

Before its formal establishment, these trailblazers organized as the Democratic Select Committee in 1969, creating a unified platform to fight inequality and systemic barriers.

The CBC was founded in 1971 by 13 members of Congress committed to amplifying Black voices in a legislative body where they had long been marginalized and underrepresented.
