Yeah I’m a latina (Afro myself but I have white Latin family members) so I get that they can be white skinned too I more meant white as in like European descent like Caucasian people.

That’s fine, I’m not hating on you I’m just seeing a lot of things that I find myself commenting on less to defend her because she did make a mistake and more to provide some evenhandedness because I’ve seen a lot of people take what happened in ways that strip the nuance of the moment.

The fan absolutely deserved (and seems to have accepted) the apology I’m not arguing she didn’t do anything wrong, tact is important for an artist, but having seen video in context to what just occurred the confusion made sense and wasn’t out of nowhere. It just needed more graceful an approach.

I’m just saying that I’m glad she apologized but people are kinda acting like she knew that the person was MENA and was being deliberately disrespectful when in reality she seemed to think it was a white person being disrespectful and then quoting her song to get away with it.

Being so fr, while she should have been more tactful in the moment, I can get why, not seeing who said it and just getting ‘it’s my culture’ in response with no follow up details, she didn’t think about it being serious in the moment.

I mean, given the context no it isn’t? (To be clear she should have apologized I’m glad she did.) she had JUST performed the song where a line is ‘I’ll tell them it’s just your culture and everyone rolls their eyes’, someone then does something she doesn’t recognize and they say that in response -

Sabrina said she misheard (and i think she thought someone was referencing a line in her song bc she didnt see who was talking) and apologized, then it came out some big name people were trying to make manufactured controversy stick and the actual arab fan said she didnt take it personally

Chappell and Sabrina both got hated often for nothing (this situation was a genuine mistake and Sabrina apologized) its cause they’re women.

What are you talking about genuinely? Sabrina got hated immediately and despite apologizing immediately making it clear she didn’t see/hear who was talking and the fan in question accepting the apology people are calling her MAGA.

What frosts my fuckin’ cookies is all the people using this as an excuse to just blatantly call her a whore. Cause they know they can get away with it if they claim the moral high ground.

And considering the song she had just done was the one where she says ‘I’ll tell them it’s just your culture and everyone rolls their eyes’ I can see how she might not in the moment have thought to take it seriously.

Well it seems like she thought it was the yodel white people do at burning man (which is rooted in white supremacy) and since she didn’t see/could barely even hear the person explain I get why she said weird (though I think the default is to just go ‘oh cool’ and it was an error on her part)

I’m glad I know now, it’s always fun to learn! I just am saying that I have a completely easy time believing it just never came up in her life before.

I mean, I’m a woman of color living in New York and I have friends of many backgrounds including Arabic friends and since that has never come up (what that kinda cheer is called) I didn’t know until literally earlier today. I just assumed it was like a whoop sound of joy not that it had like a name

Yeah, like I’m glad she did. It was a genuine misstep on her part and once she was made aware she apologized. I don’t blame people for being upset but I also even when I saw it didn’t think she was being malicious I was like ‘oh she could barely hear that oof’

She didn’t make fun of them she was genuinely confused because she couldn’t hear (she explained and apologized already) and like, that’s already what I suspected was the case. It was a mistake and people had a right to be upset but it had no malicious intent.
