What continues: a more patient-centred, syndromic approach across Long COVID, ME/CFS, PTLD and PoTS. Common ground, not silos.

Aurora over Culloden. Na Fir-Chlis — the Nimble Men — fight an everlasting battle. The red is their blood.
This March, Scotland’s Clinical Network for Long Term Effects of COVID-19 comes to an end.
Achievements include clearer referral guidelines, shared best practice, and, importantly, recurring funding secured for clinics.
Delighted to be talking about NHS Highland's new service for patients with ME/CFS, Long COVID, and similar conditions tomorrow on BBC Radio Scotland with Cameron Angus-MacKay

Certainly for our #LongCOVID service the feedback is part of how we justify continued funding. Please please do the questionnaires and follow up surveys!!

Feeling grateful for a warm, well-lit home tonight, and for all those generations of thinkers and doers who made this possible.
Wishing everyone a peaceful winter solstice, and hope you enjoy the quiet and calm of the long night.
Thanks #AlisonParfitt for the best photos
Went to a beautiful place tonight to say goodbye to the sun, ahead of almost 18 hours of darkness.
At Clava Cairns, the midwinter alignment reminds us that the #reasonfortheseason has been known for >4000 years: our shared relationship with the sun.
@HumanismScotland
So far we have plenty enough work with those referred from general practice!! Glad your Dad got a diagnosis.

• Findings are consistent across gender and mental health history, suggesting the need for stress management in self-care programs.

• Stress and worry about illness are strong predictors of increased symptom severity on the same and following day.
• Symptoms affected include breathlessness, dizziness, depression, and cognitive dysfunction.
Daily stress and worry are additional triggers of symptom fluctuations in individuals living with Long COVID. Key Findings on Stress and Symptom Severity: The study highlights the relationship between daily stress, worry, and symptom severity in Long COVID patients.
From experience with Ebola and COVID-19: clinical support for patients and connecting outbreak response to long-term research matters.

Thanks - it was just supposed to be an illustration! Our home nasa lean test instructions are on the web page. They should only be carried out and interpreted by a medical professional

🏥 Worth Considering:
These findings suggest that offering NASA Lean Test screening in long COVID clinics could help ensure patients receive timely diagnosis and management.

💡 Our Experience at NHS CRS:
We’ve found it useful to screen all long COVID patients for PoTS using the NASA Lean Test - a simple assessment most patients can successfully complete at home.
⚠️ The Key Takeaway:
Nearly half of patients with PoTS would have been missed without routine screening - they showed no classic symptoms beforehand.
📊 What We Found:
• 11% of long COVID patients met criteria for PoTS
• 52% experienced orthostatic intolerance symptoms during testing
• 45% of those with objective PoTS had NO prior warning symptoms
💙 PoTS Awareness Day: Findings from the LOCOMOTION Study
On this awareness day, I wanted to reflect on key findings from our research across 10 UK Long COVID clinics about PoTS screening:

"Our workarounds might just work for acquired cognitive issues too." So, I'm wondering if we should be sharing our playbook more widely this week as we increase awareness of Dyslexia?

"The difference? I was born dyslexic and had decades to develop these systems. They're dealing with sudden cognitive changes that turned their world upside down. But maybe that's where the dyslexic community can help. We've been living with and adapting to these kinds of brain differences forever."
From a Dyslexic Doctor's Perspective: "I am sitting at my desk with all the tricks of the trade to deal with what is at least partly a working memory issue. It strikes me how similar this is to the cognitive challenges my Long-COVID patients describe."
