With the UK-EU summit in May, our new report and blog reveal the impact of Brexit and how the UK-EU reset can enhance cancer research collaboration. “Beating cancer is a team effort. Whether as a family, as a community or as a continent.” (Ursula von der Leyen, 2024) bit.ly/42X88YE 1/9

The @NILQ established a series in which academics reflect on academic writing. Delighted to be the sixth such reflection published, joining those of @Mariana Valverde and @Barbara Prainsack (and some others). Thank you to everyone who has co-written with me, or is currently co-writing with me!

Starmer’s EU reset risks being dragged down by the old Brexit undertow | Rafael Behr With Trump back in the White House, politicians on both sides of the Channel need to acknowledge the urgency of closer ties, says Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

“The basic equation hasn’t changed. Access to European markets is priced in alignment with European rules, and it isn’t a pick-and-mix counter.” - @rafaelbehr.bsky.social

Quaker groups file suit over the end of policy restricting ICE arrests in houses of worship The suit appears to be the first from a faith-based organization challenging the change in court.

“The very threat of that [immigration] enforcement deters congregants from attending services, especially members of immigrant communities.”

It’s wonderful to see various religious communities like Quakers organise to defend the rights of migrants. This is religious freedom in action.

Solidarity.

New semester, new group for my elective module. Sadly the last time I get to teach it (new rules require more than the 47 students who enrolled this year) #eurelations #inclusion

We routinely see people dress their revulsion towards trans people and their medical care as “concern.” But cases like this are just a gross breach of trans people’s privacy. Such tactics mirror how anti-abortion activists have sought to strip away reproductive care. We must challenge this politics.

I had the pleasure to review an incredibly interesting and highly valuable book: Not What The Bus Promised by @tamarahervey.bsky.social, @ivankaantova.bsky.social, Mark Flear, and Matthew Wood. I strongly recommend it to anyone who’s interested in all things Brexit and health governance.
