It's weird that now Sony is rolling out age verification that there isn't that much talk of boycotting any aspect of them. It worked so well for discord that I assumed everyone would be unsubing from PS plus in response. But instead I just keep finding tone-deaf memes about how old you are .

In short a community cannot be your escapist fantasy because it's made of real people.
Community includes people outside yourself and if you wish to grow in a community you care for you have to have uncomfortable conversations. It's how we protect ourselves and others from bad actors.
Escapism can be still found in the medium don't get me wrong but it is in personal and insular experiences such as media consumption.
There is this idea going around that furry is escapism for many. And that they don't want to deal with politics while maneuvering and socializing in fandom spaces. That is impossible to be blunt, spaces are built by community and you cannot find escapism there without being in a bubble of privilege
