Humble Book Bundle: Martha Wells' Murderbot and More by TOR Fall in love with Martha Wells’ The Murderbot Diaries series—the engine behind the hit AppleTV adaptation—and help support World Central Kitchen.

Don't forget about the DRM-free Humble Bundle from Tor (with Murderbot, Witch King, and more), benefiting World Center Kitchen. The donation is now at over 58,000. It would be awesome to get it up to $100,000.

Fellow film tech nerds, I had the incredible honor and pleasure to be invited back to the Team Deakins podcast. This time we discussed maintaining image authorship throughout the pipeline and how colorspaces work.

If any Hugo Awards voters enjoyed Lower Decks, it would be very cool to get a nod!

Since I am 1 week away from unemployment, if you or someone you know needs a music video this year... please ask me. I enjoy it and I want to do more of it. Also I need to prove to the bluesky libs that I'm not a radical leftist TV writer... I also make films

I have a story in this but I’m just getting to read my author copy and it’s a real treat. An absolute smorgasbord of the weird and the fantastical.

Rhys is the #1 hype person for this series and it always makes me so happy. They both came out in the pandemic and so they were challenging releases, but I love our angry, stabby queers in space. They deserved more flowers. I wish more people knew about them.

Elder Race

Elder Race by @aptshadow.bsky.social is on Prime Reading at the moment, so I borrowed it on a whim, and it was lovely. A great blend of epic fantasy and sci-fi, and a great story about language (including a great little segment of direct "translation"). torpublishinggroup.com/elder-race/ #booksky

Read all of Stormlight Archive for the first time last year. Enjoyed the series but it took up a _lot_ of reading time.
Looking forward to reading more widely this year. Next up is @aliettedebodard.com’s “In the Shadow of the Ship” from the great Xuya universe.

Haven’t seen enough talk about Alien Clay by @aptshadow.bsky.social so, let’s talk.

✔️ Limits of academic dissent

✔️ Trademark themes re: empathy as a biological imperative

✔️ Nuanced ecological speculation in a thoroughly alien biome

✔️ Superb audiobook performance

✔️ A 2024 fave

I work in visual effects. We work crazy hours under difficult conditions for movies that make billions and yet we are “ruining movies” with our work. I went on a YouTube show to illustrate the human side of our work, that computers don’t create visual effects. People do.

Cover of novel, The Blue, Beautiful World by Karen Lord, with a tilted image of an iridescent iris against the starry darkness of deep space.

Text above cover says: ‘“Karen Lord weaves a complex story of first contact from a unique perspective that is warm, engaging, and wildly original. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!” — Martha Wells, New York Times bestselling author of The Murderbot Diaries.’
