My brother is a biochemist in Argentina studying pesticides and cancer. As in the US, the far-right gov there has completely defunded science, thus crowdfunding is needed. Please contribute and/or share: experiment.com/projects/help-us-expose-how-pesticides-weaken-human-immune-cells-in-the-lab

A shortened an updated version of our letter was just published here. Really proud of my colleagues! #edusky

Just yesterday I was telling some students to continue demanding but not to expect our admin to take a public stance on the issues at hand, and yet today's Daily shows how the president of Princeton is doing exactly that, in a very public way: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/p...

Not sure you saw this, in the NYTimes
NYC against fascism
Proud of my brilliant colleague and friend
In the NYT right now, from a Justice Dept lawyer: “I will tell you right now that Columbia has not in my opinion — and the opinion of the Department of Justice — has not cleaned up their act,” Mr. Terrell said. “They’re not even close, not even close to having those funds unfrozen.”
Dani Friedrich, an associate professor of curriculum at Columbia’s Teachers College, said that while the university has had “struggles ... with different kinds of discrimination and different acts against Jewish students, against Muslim students, against protesters,” agreeing to the Trump administration’s demands “is not the way to go.” “The university should know, and it’s become very obvious, that acceding to the Trump administration’s demands is not going to restore the funding,” Friedrich added.
"acceding to the ... demands is not going to restore the funding." From @danifriedrich.bsky.social in @chronicle.com

It’s an extrajudicial killing of a university.
And it’s a self-inflicted mortal wound.
Both.

We are fucked. Columbia caved to fascist demands. How do they think this will satisfy them and the money will be returned?
This will lead to radical change in the nature of the university and, I hope, to mass resistance.
[The views are mine and not my institution's, but they fucking should] #edusky
And just so we're clear, in Argentina it's not that a few generals fooled 30 million. There wouldn't have been a dictatorship without the support of a large portion of the public, and another large portion who didn't care enough to oppose it.
Seeing this video is impossible not to think of the Disappeared in Argentina. Agents in plainclothes, taking a man into an unmarked car, without a warrant or anything. It's terrifying.
Cartoon by Paz & Rudy in Spanish, with a man sitting on a chair and stating: "Cruelty is how fascists boast"

Just got mine! Haven't been this excited about something in the mail in a while!!
Are you curious about how Jean Anyon might read Diff'rent Strokes? Or what Gloria Ladson-Billings might have to say about The Parent 'Hood? What's a potential queer reading of Buffy The Vampire Slayer aided by Sumara & Davis? And how does this all tie back to Abbott Elem, Janet Miller, and us?
Very special guests include: Wayne Au, Denise Taliaferro Baszile, Esther Ohito, Rachel Talbert, Roozbeh Shirazi, Katie Strom and Boni Wozolek. We think the pub made a mistake with the ebook price, so get it before they catch it! #EduSky
And let us know if you're interested in a book talk!
New book w @joco513.bsky.social is out! Really proud of this work. We took TV eps about school and paired them with articles from Curr Studies from that same year, 1979-2020. We put theory to work, aimed mostly at students being introduced to the field

Can't recommend this highly enough. In my view, the best live action Superman ever. Yeah, including the classics.
My 8yo is in DC with my wife. She left her backpack (w 🧸!) in the metro. Someone found it, found her public library card, contacted NYPL, left his contact, and they reached out to me to get the bag. AMAZING! All the love, once again, to #NYPL
One issue is that in the US, "the left" has been equated with "the Dems", and most Dems unfortunately do not support those policies. And it's true that those Dems don't have answers to those issues
Has anyone else gotten a desk rejection that took several months form one of the biggest journals in our field? I found out I'm not the only one and trying to see how systemic this is with this one journal. If it's happened to you, pm me.

Does every single office and every administrator have to send their own Happy Holidays email? Can't they just send one on behalf of the university? Nevermind, that would be efficient.
On behalf The Critical Social Educator (TCSE), we’re thrilled to share the first of two issues on "play and joy" guest edited by Drs. Tran Templeton @trantempleton.bsky.social & Harper Keenan @harperkeenan.bsky.social, along w/ Nicole Fox & Akiea "Ki" Gross.

Just got a paper rejected after an internal review that took them 5 months. So disrespectful to take this long to not even send it out for review.
It's so weird, I've never felt like this about a store closure in my life. It was my favorite place (not just eatery) in the area... Perhaps in the city #AbsoluteBagels #AbsoluteForever

Absolute Bagels is closed for good
The election was bad... But this is absolutely unacceptable. IYKYK
