Officially changing my sermon series for December to be only Mary’s Magnificat. Go ahead and try to sell me something based on that Rupert.

Preschool Christmas concerts aren’t really singing, it’s just kids mumbling until the part they know & then SCREAMING the words like Will Ferrell’s SNL voice modulation character anyway it’s pretty cute.

On one hand it’s my favorite podcast.

On the other hand no one needs more content to consume.

I would LOVE to talk with you about the whole season, which I was mostly frustrated by. That being said, the final scene suckered punched me. Correct me if I’m wrong but she saved Ule by … serving him communion, right?

Fargo s5 mostly didn’t work for me, but I am an easy mark for unexpected catharsis involving Christian imagery & the end scene, the offering of “the bread of life” that can wash away the sin of the past got me good, especially when stacked against the God & country pseudo-faith of Roy Tillman.

What’s fantastic about this is that Reacher pretty famously hates all authority, is very skeptical of cops, and it’s pretty much his exact MO to take down people in power who are hurting the defenseless.

We’re living in a remarkable time where some of our greatest filmmakers are examining their own legacies and saying “what have I done? Why am I doing this? What does this say about me? About us?”

The movie works very hard to deny our attempts to be entertained by what we’re seeing. The violence isn’t glamorous. The villains and banal and stupid.

And even then Scorsese worried, you sense, it wasn’t enough. That he didn’t do right by the story.

Killers of the Flower Moon 3 1/2 hour running time isn’t brisk. It’s not exciting. It’s not propulsive. You’ll feel how long it is. It’s punishing. it makes you sit in a hostile, stifling, oppressive world & be worn down by the hopelessness.

It tries to make you feel how the Osage felt: trapped.

The attacks on Israel, and the response. The Israel-Palestine conflict has unraveled.

The only sane thing I’ve read this week about Israel & Palestine. It provides a broad historical perspective, recognizes Hamas’s slaughter as an abomination, while also seeing what inevitably led to this. It offers zero easy answers & no heroes.

Please set aside time to read it. t.co/3kg69XTnWd

RPO is … kinda great tho? Literally ends either with a guy who has made nostalgic popcorn entertainment for the masses saying “oh crap, maybe in building a successful media empire around my person obsessions I’ve screwed up an entire generation of people.“

the secret to enjoying yourself at an airport is to accept that they are unreal spaces where the laws that govern reality crumble. partake in the madness. metal busses fly. GQ is literature. taking off your shoes stops terrorism. dine like kings on $100 burgers. chug 9am beers. embrace the madness.

Downside: it’s just a sad reminder of what Twitter used to be.

Upside: it’s so much better than what Twitter is now.

Anyway, always grateful for your presence.
