HOUSE MARTIN A member of the swallow family and a summer visitor. Like the swallow it feeds on insects and catches these while on the wing. It builds a beautiful nest under the eaves of buildings; a shapely cup of mud, with a neat entrance near the top, and lined with dry grass and feathers. In September it is a charming sight to see the large gatherings of martins and swallows on telegraph wires and roofs, twittering together as if discussing the long and hazardous flight to Africa which all must attempt.
