I think Mike Carlin had left. I recall reading Shooter fired him at Marvel for some frivolous reason. It could also be that then President Diane Nelson and Vice President–Executive Editor Dan Didio was not as concerned as Levitz was about keeping the peace internally.

My guess is it's due to Marvel not keeping books in print. Even though Perlmutter is gone, it seems that policy is still around. Both Fantagraphics and Darkhorse have a long history with the book market and keeping books in print, so bookstores and libraries will buy from them, but not Marvel.

Jim Shooter Interview – Jamie Coville

Shooter told me in a 1998 interview (so it wasn't 20 years later, more like 11-12) that Paul Levitz agreed to, then had to back out of Jim writing a Legion story because of the bad blood against him.

I have this comic, bought it when it came out.
I'm just reminded of Al Milgrom's hidden message against Bob Harras when he was inking the book, so when it's a collaborative work I try not to assume it was one particular person.
Joe Sinnott was the inker of FF, but I have doubts he'd do that.

I'm pretty sure there was a lot more to it than that. If the bulk of the industry despises you to the point where you're a pariah, then perhaps it's you who are the problem.
Shooter couldn't even get work at DC writing the Legion 20 years later due to the bad blood.

Might not have been Englehart who put that in. Artist was Keith Pollard and letterer was John Workman.
I don't know if either of them had issues with Shooter, but a lot of creators did. Especially towards the end.

Funny how there is always somebody who's willing to be the 'bad one' and vote with the Republicans.

Do you have a criminal record or been credibly accused of doing something really sketchy? They need to be sure that you go out of your way to be horrible to people with no shame or feelings of guilt. Remember, empathy is a weakness. Those are also job requirements.

To be fair to the boars, I'd probably run too if I saw that thing running at me.

I had that calendar, but I wrote all over it (as I normally do) and at the end cut it up to post some of it on my walls as mini-posters. They are all gone now though.

Also, if the author is comfortable using AI for the cover, there is a good chance they are comfortable using it for the writing too. Which means there is nothing new in there, just regurgitated, badly put together slop. Not worth your time.

It's not fear, it's theft of copyright.
Don't get me wrong, people are scared of AI taking work away from them, because it already is. That also creates anger.
Especially at people who choose to use AI instead of paying an artist, or even a graphic designer to come up with a cover.

I was re-watching Wrestle Mania 8 on the WWE Vault channel. That was fun.

Avengers. My first was #276, stuck with it until Kurt Busiek left. I also got back issues to the start of Roger Stern's run. I also got the black and white essentials that covered the first 200 or so issues.

Sam was not the only one to draw naked Wolverine in MCP. BWS did it for Weapon X, which resulted in a yelling match between DeFalco and BWS about how many captions would cover up his art.

If you haven't already talked to ‪@anthonyruttgaizer.bsky.social‬ about his attempt to do a Rocket Robin Hood comic book you should.

I've seen several editors call themselves award winning editors after book they edited won an award. I've not seen anybody push back on that either. It's a completely justifiable win you can take and we can all use some of those.

It took me a while to over come that feeling. Especially if they were in another city that I just decided to drive to for an afternoon out/something to do.

I stopped doing that, probably in part because it sucked going in, seeing nothing that wasn't in every other comic shop and walking out again.

It might have added $$$ to Byrne after the OA went on sale.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

My hypothesis. Denny said Jim said No because Jim said No. Byrne quits and goes to DC. Jim knows this will cause a drop in sales he'll have to answer for. His answer can't be "I nitpicked our best selling artist so bad he quit." So Jim falsely blames Denny for Byrne quitting and fires him for it.

I also read your book. I was an Eisner Judge that year. Sorry it didn't get nominated. The 'Books about Comics' category is pretty wide ranging, from serious history books to individual artists' books.

There were errors on the comic books, Jill said in an interview that she didn't care about the comic books. Her research on it stops when Marston dies. I know one glaring example that Mark Waid pointed out was saying Doctor Poison from Sensation Comics #2 was a man, when it was a female character.

Leporte's book came out in 2014, that article is from 2017. I know Christie (the grand daughter who wrote that article) also did not like her book, due to the errors and even felt betrayed by her because of how she portrayed William.
I am not sure who was writing the book she mentioned.

FYI: Some members of the Marston family really hate this book as it has many inaccuracies.
