It then begets the drifting towards inherently political. Compared to historians of the less recent past, I never have to debate why what I studied is important. However, the past, and those who lived it, brought us to where we are now whether it's eels in London or COC missionaries in the Cold War.

And the interview with John Wyatt Greenlee has given me a different perspective on historian experience. As someone who deals with American Christianity and views on the Middle East in the Cold War, I never have to "argue for relevancy". However, in my academic space as a community college (2 of ?)

Unlike many historians, I got the privilege of actually interviewing the individual that I used in my MA thesis. Obviously, this comes with questions of sociality, but, I was lucky enough to deal with the living and the threads of neo-colonialism. Listening to @americanmedieval.bsky.social (1 of 2)

Out of curiosity, is it Yuja? They also have a port over for Direct 2 Learn that we use and it has the exact same problems you listed.

Dr. Adam Gaiser (currently at FSU) was excellent to have as an isntructor and very personable. He specializes in early Islamic studies, Shi'ism, and sectarianism. I also believe he may have a project coming out soon on the Ibadis.

I agree with this on a spiritual level. Thought it would lessen every semesters' end. It hasn't yet

The positives of having a faculty book budget and revising course material includes slowly acquiring books from the guests from @thisguysucked.com. Planning for this to be holiday break reading.

Depending on how open this is (individually and distance-wise), I'd be glad to assist.

Oddly, I see this mostly in online classed, but I always have 6 or 7 in my ongrounds (out of 90sh students) that do the same. It is truly mind-boggling

As someone who rarely engages beyond likes and shares on any social media, I have to say that Bluesky has been the best experience so far. Much more worthwhile engagement and content! To anyone seeing this. Thank you for creating such a space.

Immediate follow on Spotify. I love seeing other historians engage the public in such a unique way! In my unbiased opinion, the best field of research by far!

It's a community name and not a word, but Chalybeate Springs is a definite tell.

The academic’s mid-summer crisis is a mid-life crisis in miniature:

You realize summer is half gone, & not only that: you see that the longest & least burdened days came early, & they are well past. You compare all you thought you’d do against the days remaining & grieve for what never will be

As always, I am a constant liker on social media. However, Bluesky is the only one where I feel the ability to interact to the same degree that I do in my day-to-day. Good job to the community for keeping that vibe a reality!

After completing the finale today, I think of it as a combo of the 1st 2 (historical narrative), with the 3rd as the guide. As an Exandrian home game DM, I watched it as entertainment, aside from watching it as any DM would (thinking of threads/possibilities at my own table).

I made a snarky tweet about how I wish there was a podcast where all my historian friends could talk about how much we hate some of the people we research - 2 million people saw it and now it appears I'm entering my Person With A Podcast arc.

I specifically notice mine coming out when I call home or am around them. Students say I have "lecture" accent, where I tend to enunciate more clearly. Otherwise, it's a slight southern. The closest comparison I have for my original accent is the actor Lucas Black (Tokyo Drift) who is from my area.

In college (under and grad), I masked mine (northern AL) until Dr. McClive, an FSU History Professor from England, made the statement that she had hid hers until she realized that she should be proud of it, as part of who she is. It helped me find confidence in my accent in academia.

It also makes it harder for them to ban books.

Well, I have made the move to Bluesky. However, I am not one to have a large social media presence. Instead, expect a lot of random "likes" and shares. The content will likely be:
-video game related
-dnd related
-history related
-occasionally but rarely comical

I'm happy to be here!

Having discovered this post in my search for accounts from my place of employment, I would be happy to answer as much as I know about this new program. I am part of the history department here and am happy to discuss it.
