I've always said that Ukraine has the easiest answer to what they are fighting for: Ukraine.

For Russia it's convoluted and rarely the same: NATO encroachment, against Nazis, for traditional culture, border safety, manifest destiny, some 11th century event, you name it. Tough to rally behind that.

He's saying that people with a following that talk about beauty products are known as beauty influencers. Joan Partidge (103 years of age) is also a beauty influencer.

Garbage bags here in Korea are made of naphtalene so people have been buying them up. (Especially because you need a certain kind for each type of garbage) Same for things like syringes.

Trump eliminated so many mid-level diplomatic staff and uses Witkoff and Kushner everywhere instead (Rubio a bit too), Iran has the IRGC with its own agenda in addition to the government, nobody at lower levels is meeting to actually hash out the points of a deal, indeed it's a complete mess

Two refrains I never tire of hearing:

1. "Ukrainian housewife kitchen drones (insert massive Russian thing that got blown up)"
2. "Real estate developer Steve Witkoff" (@scottlucas.bsky.social during his interviews)

A big problem is that US and Iran are hydras in which each head has no idea what the other one is saying or doing. Bessent says this Trump says f that, Trump says this and forgets,in Iran Ghalibaf says this and the IRGC says f that, plus much of the previous org chart in both is either fired or dead

Nice, which part of Canada? (I'm a Calgarian myself)

It's a big problem here in Korea interestingly given the narrowness of the streets compared to North America.

On the other hand, smaller houses also means that cars become that much more useful to store stuff. (And to feel a sense of space which few have at home)

It's an easy unblock for sure as Hungary was already exempted from contributing to the fund.

I always like lurking on this subreddit to see if there is any clarity after events like these. (There is a little, though much more bellyaching overall)

"Unacceptable, this one must be vetoed. Get mouse on the line."

I guarantee he's said something like that more than once

Ooh, the messaging has finally graduated from the classic "debris fell down and didn't do much" bit. Must have really hurt

Also the perfect Germanic language to learn for English speakers that have trouble with cases, grammatical gender and all the rest. Highly recommended. Makes Dutch and even a good amount of German readable!

I give Biden a bit of a mulligan after the GOP got the House which effectively gave Trump control of one third of government already. Biden was definitely weak on limiting where to use the weapons but having to wait for so long for a new aid package was all on the GOP.

I wonder if this is what Sternenko was hinting at yesterday?

True, he can't hold enough things in his head at once to be an agent.

Instead of this: "Must unblock the strait" - "Ukraine helps Gulf countries" - "Might unblock the strait!" -> "I like Ukraine?"

He thinks: "I sell arms to Gulf countries" -> "Ukraine is making its own deals!!" -> Angry at Ukraine

Might help to take off some chaebeol shine which can only be good. i.e. the sense that someone working at one must be making oodles more than another person at an SME.

Are regular Hungarians impressed by this ragged gaggle of foreigners that are suddenly popping out of the woodwork to prop him up late in the election?

Since the support provided is zero, the only play left is to offer to send support again if Europe helps patrol the strait.

Liking Russia is just his default setting IMO. He's not a straight up agent like Orban (also not clever enough to be one) but always gravitates towards feeling affection for it. Every once in a while he can be pulled away for a bit but it doesn't last long.

I can see that for sure. Very little written online is from a source you are absolutely sure is a human that lives in the same place or even speaks the same language as you, so increasing that volume has very little effect.

But actual word of mouth is as real as it gets.

Has he always been like this? I hardly knew about him until a few years ago along with all the rest of us.

He's Giuliani with Zelensky/Ukrainians instead of 9/11.

Great news, also random comment: I kind of like that combination of super short hair and sideburns on this guy.

The Chinese one is just a phonetic simplification that IMO is somewhat silly (some simplification to the point that Japanese did is fine but PRC China went waay overboard).

My pet peeve is turning 驚 to 惊 when it could have just simplified the horse to 马 at the bottom!

Even his base must be embarrassed by now, no? Like how 9/11 used to be Giuliani's go-to thing to mention that always worked until he just went overboard and made a parody of himself.
