I was just like “where does my brain get this stuff?”

And my kid pulls out this instant analysis: “mom we have a cat named Loki and we were literally JUST watching GoT and star trek is always somewhere in your brain…OBVIOUSLY” XD

One of this week’s fever dreams involved a Norse god chasing me while holding the severed decaying head of a character from star trek and later wearing his face…I won’t even watch horror movies yet my brain just writes its own if I have a fever!

(I had been rewatching a lot of GoT tho…)

Do you get them when sick by any chance? I always experience awful intense nightmares or night terrors when sick (and almost never do any other time). Especially if I have a fever.

I was reading yesterday that a ton of different stuff can cause them though.

Geez that seems so stressful I’m so sorry. I get freaked out as is just by things that don’t make sense to me even if not technically scary.

It’s such a weird process. I was reading up a bit on the sleep/wake transition after my episode yesterday & realizing how many different ways it can manifest!

Have you ever experienced alice in wonderland syndrome by any chance? I used to get that as a kid and it TERRIFIED me (not really sure why…it was literally just…the room would grow to grow or I would shrink?)

Wonder if there’s any connection between those experiences?

But for me it was just like… my cat walking by on the floor when I was in bed and couldn’t see the floor.

Not….THAT thing. 😬

before my episode yesterday I kept cycling through mini nightmares where I’d think I was passing out and falling every time my brain tried to shift sleep states, and going in and out of lucidity so there was some dream visual overlap.

aaaaa omg. That would freak me out so much, I’m so sorry you deal with that! I knew people sometimes felt “pinned” but oooof.

Makes sense since it’s an overlap of sleep/wake states.

I was fully consciously aware but not in control of my speech center. So i kept randomly talking (not real words, just nonsense) like I was talking in my sleep. But awake. 😅

I had no idea that could happen and was SO freaked out at the time but looked it up after and I guess yeah that’s a thing!

Wow lol this is super super weird because I have had sleep paralysis maybe once or twice in my life before but just experienced a weird version of if yesterday.

Omg I clicked the first two and was like “oh it’s my cats” 🤣

but yeah they’re definitely different from any cat I’ve had before (they love water for example). Strongly not recommended for first-time cat owners, but thankfully their crazy energy is VERY familiar for me after 15 years of Siamese mixes, and it’s been such a fun experience (both of them have). 🩷

They’re considered fully domesticated at this point, (the hybridization/formation of the breed happened decades ago so while much more recent than the African Wildcat ancestry, Loki’s ALC ancestry would still be many many generations back in his family tree)—sorry, cat genetics nerd ramblings

He’s a Bengal! 😸 Most domestic cats are descendants of the African Wildcat, but Bengals have a hybrid ancestry which brought Asian Leopard Cat genes into the mix, and that’s where the rosette spots come from, along with a number of other more subtle anatomical features.

Y’know how indoor cats sometimes mime “burying” their leftover food?

I had a bowl of spaghetti sitting on a tray next to me in bed, and Toasty hopped up, sniffed the bowl, and promptly started “burying” it.

Not sure if she thought she was saving it for me…or herself. 🤔

That is mildly reassuring but they still scare me due to the sheer size difference. 😅 They’re just so big and I’m so tiny!

I am automatically wary of any animal that could theoretically kill or seriously injure me by trampling or kicking me. (Fine around those mini horses though!)

Meanwhile we literally have outdoor pvc pipes in our kitchen that the previous owner seems to have DiY’d and I am baffled those have held up (but just learned there’s now evidence they can leach toxic chemicals onto the water hurray 🙃)

Our copper pipes (and house in general) are very very old so this was bound to happen sooner or later and I guess I’m at least glad we found the problem before multiple corroded pipes started bursting!

We just found out about the pipes issue yesterday so I’m not sure what the plan is yet.

I had to google pex as I didn’t know what it was but thank you for mentioning it! Looks like something we should look into!

I used to do vector animation myself and I remember often trying to push the limits of the software in ways that were super time consuming in an effort to better match my usual “painterly/cartoon hybrid” illustration style, so any time I see software providing more options for this, it’s exciting!

…or help 3D animation better mimic those classic hand-drawn 2D styles (as 3D began to dominate the industry, I hated the idea of those styles simply becoming a thing of the past).

Oh wow this is really impressive! I wonder how long it took to set up that rigging?

I’ve always been really fascinated with the concept of combining more illustrative 2D art with 2D or 3D rigging systems! I feel stuff like this has so much potential to help revive 2D animation as a viable medium…

…desire to “buy more time.”

I actually dunno where I’m going with this, sorry, I am sick and mentally foggy atm.

But now I really want to rewatch this movie when I’m feeling better so I can analyze the narrative & character development choices of this cartoon dog movie in-depth! XD

I assume part of it was the lead-in: we don’t get to see much of Charlie’s morally questionable backstory upfront, just him escaping prison & triumphantly returning to his casino, only to be suddenly betrayed & murdered, making his situation feel very unfair/causing us to empathize with his…

But now as an adult I’m like “omg dude shes literally just trying to keep you from making a huge mistake with serious permanent consequences!”

It’s interesting how they framed her as this “stick in the mud” authority figure enforcing unfair rules / obstacle blocking Charlie’s “second chance.”

^ Such a relatable comment!

It’s so funny, I remember as a little kid she stressed me out the same way playground supervisors and teachers getting mad at me for not knowing I was doing something wrong (or them assuming I was doing something that I wasn’t) would…

I’m sick (as in acute viral illness, not just my “usual stuff”), my other symptoms persist and remain undiagnosed, and I just found out we have to re-pipe our entire house because the pipes are corroding and leaking. 🫠

Can I just pick ONE thing to deal with at a time maybe?
