Finland's Moomin is very popular in Japan, so it's not surprising that someone took advantage of the weekend snow in Tokyo to sculpt a Moomin on a bench at Inokashira Park (and they did a bangup job, too)

Jeffrey Epstein’s Money Mingled With Silicon Valley Start-Ups

Epstein had many known connections to Silicon Valley CEOs, but less known was how he made money from those relationships.

We did a deep dive into how he got dealflow in Silicon Valley, giving him shots to invest in Coinbase, Palantir, SpaceX and other companies.

don't mean to blow anyone's mind with this shocking insight but the direct line between epstein, 4chan, gamergate, tech bro fascists etc is misogyny. prolific rapists, guys who believe women have inferior intelligence, and guys who hate women for rejecting them all have something big in common!

Quilicura, Chile, one of the communities I wrote about in EMPIRE OF AI, has launched a brilliant initiative to inspire more responsible AI prompting. Today, don't use AI; ask the townspeople instead: quili.ai. So heartened to see this creative act of resistance.

Tweet from Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun: "Ignorance like this cheapens the horror of the Holocaust. Anne Frank was in Amsterdam legally and abided by Dutch law. She was hauled off to a death camp because of her race and religion. Her story has nothing to do with the illegal immigration, fraud, and lawlessness plaguing Minnesota today.

Our brave law enforcement should be commended, not tarred with this historically illiterate and antisemitic comparison."

To avoid the possibility Holocaust remembrance might lead to empathy for migrants, Trump's antisemitism envoy claims Anne Frank "was in Amsterdam legally."

In reality, Margot Frank received a summons to go to a labor camp on July 5, 1942. After ignoring this call, they were in Amsterdam illegally.

stop using AI to do your research. it hallucinates too often. if you want an answer to something, post something arrogant on the appropriate subreddit. something like: "this item performs 10% better than everything else. only idiots deny this." this will bait nerds into doing your research for you.

Trump creates chaos on purpose to drown out the truth.

He is betting that if he makes enough noise you will forget about the Epstein files.

Do not let him win.

His name is all over those documents and he is terrified that people will actually read them

It is! And they also rapped in Sundanese (traditional language in West Java, Indonesia). I think Asian rap is going through a different phase, away from Westernised style with English lyrics and towards rapping in local languages. SKAI ISYOURGOD is another example.

2025 is clearly the year of Sunda Supermacy, because what do you mean we're having both Sunda Hip-hop and Sunda psychedelic/funk this very year!

An update on this: Moniro is now in Australia, her cat Ava is now in a foster home in Malaysia, but the next step will be for Ava to spend six months in Singapore, as Australia doesn’t accept pet relocations directly from Malaysia. So, we’re now seeking a foster home in Singapore 🙏🏻

I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast! There are a lot of layers uncovered and I like to see that true crime topic can also be discussed in a respectful manner. Thanks for making this!

Empire of AI - Water Footprint Changes — Karen Hao

I have issued two changes to my book regarding the water footprint of data centers. I've detailed the changes and the context behind them here: karendhao.com/20251217/emp.... Given the nature of book changes, I wanted to make sure anyone who has an existing copy of the book is aware.

I also enjoyed Decision to Leave (2022) very much. One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. The lack of intimate scenes made it all more intimate, very In The Mood of Love-like. I liked Park Chan-wook signature mix of comedy, absurdity and romance. Totally get the rave about this movie

I mean, being poor makes people angrier at things but it wasn't necessarily toxic. Also, rather than looking inward we all should question why things get too expensive to the point that dating situations are flattened into superficial materialist qualities.

Loved loved loved The Materialists (2025). I didn't think I'd enjoy it this much, but I did! NYC (and everyone in this movie) looked so pretty.

Prior to watching the movie I watched a YT essay about how Lucy basically self-sabotaged herself into choosing a "toxic relationship" but I disagree!

I love Kristen Stewart but I couldn't finish Spencer (2021). The soft color made the movie nice to look at, but I found Kristen's attempt at British accent distracting. Then again it's typically easier for British accents to speak in American accents than vice versa.

Priscilla (2023) was beautifully shot, and Cailee Spaeny was so good! But other than that, it didn't really do it for me. Jacob almost felt like he's playing himself. The conflicts weren't really effectively explored, so the story felt like it just "happened" rather than developed.
