Came up to Chadron on US 2 and you can really see the devastation of the Sandhills, from the burned areas to what should be little ponds that are completely dry.
Yay, I guessed right about why I couldn't get an ebook (rights reverted to author. Boo, I can't get the ebook (and I don't think it was ever released in print). 🤞author is able to make them available again at some point.
There is only one person who can get Bluesky working again.
Looks at flights in Midwesterner: welp, guess I'll drive.
While it was on, the steroid patche with power source was good - solid reduction in pain and better range of motion. Within 5 min of removal, back to ouch ouch ouch with bonus headache (tho changeable weather so that's not necessarily related).
I have two grants left to score and a wicked headache. Trying to decide whether to push through or do them Saturday and have 0 work-free days.
I haven't finished it yet (due to my limited time/attention span, not bc of anything intrinsic to the book) but the writing is absolutely fantastic and good creepy.
to be fair he was likely going to say 'well, the Pope wasn't speaking ex cathedra, so infallibility doesn't apply' but the mention of a chair got him thinking about couches...
Oh noooo. Hope you're ok minus the mud.
Usually it's the opposite problem (gook from items getting on you). I finally broke down and bought a lab coat for work.
Honestly, same. We didn't watch a lot of TV but this was a staple.

Several folks in my mentions said they quit watching the new Count of Monte Cristo on PBS because it features Black actors. My friend, you are going to be shocked when you learn the ethnicity of Alexandre Dumas.
Google informs me this was A Wisconsin Thing.
I still fondly remember NPR Simply Folk's Earth Day special from many many years ago (easily 20+ years). I don't remember what else was on it but definitely Emma's Revolution Kilimanjaro and Solas's Last of the Great Whales. The latter is still in regular rotation.
Popsicle for dinner day, I think. My office is 80F and food sounds gross.
That "lovely" sensation when you pull something off a shelf that's above your head and it dumps grit all over you. At work. When you showered less than 2 hours before that. #ArchivesLife
When you're writing a grant application, have someone in an unrelated field, who you have not previously enthused to about the proposed work, read your work.
Signed,
Grant reviewer who's multiple pages into the app and still doesn't totally understand what's proposed
Absolutely this. And the option to flip to a black background and white text, which is so much easier for my migraine-having self.
Social media apps as Lord of the Rings characters, a thread:
Twitter: Twitter is Gollum. Began as a normal halfling. Overexposure to evil left it thin and stretched and bitter.
It's amazing how much longer it takes to review bad or meh grants vs good ones. #academia
all these universities kept axing medieval history departments as if they thought tyrants beefing with the Pope was going to stop being relevant
Way better motivator than arbitrary deadlines! Yes, I AM bad at returning library books on time even for the one in which I'm employed, why do you ask?
Honestly, having a non wifi connected Kindle is also great for when an author pushes a major update to their book, taking your fave scenes out (yes, I have a particular title in mind and it was annoying af bc she totally rewrote what was an R rated book to maaaaybe PG13).
BREAKING: Following the American threat of an “Avignon Papacy,” Robert Kennedy has begun a Diet of Worms
*talking to teenage militant atheist self*
current me: okay so there’s a big fight between the government and the catholic church
teenage me: got it, so we’re obviously on the side of the government
current me: I, uh, you might want to sit down for this one
