ยซstare at it for a few moments. Finally cooling down, she realized something.
"๐ผ๐ ๐๐๐๐, ๐ ๐๐ผ๐๐๐ผ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐! "
ยซjust as badly as the others, let them be put to rest at least to us readers anyways.
Soon, she'd tear off her numberplate, and while the back half fell onto the ground behind her she threw the front half onto the floor.
Finally, with something to take out her frustrations on, she would justยป
ยซstands. Just because she didn't think the race fit her doesn't mean she didn't want to run it. Didn't mean she opposed trying, it just meant she didn't think she'd win it.
If there was any doubts that Mefan was a competitor, if there were any doubts that she wanted to win every race she was inยป
ยซhad even touched that hallway, and slammed the door.
Dirt from the turf caked her appearance as she just stood there, the shock apparent on her face still. Silence for a moment, maybe two, no definitely two moments.
" ๐๐๐พ๐! "
She screamed so loudly that some fan probably heard it from theยป
ยซwhat had happened.
Not even sticking around to congratulate the winners, she made a break for the dressing rooms. Her breath under her control again rather quickly as she walked.
With nobody to get in her way, as none of the media circus had set up, she made it to her room FAR before anyone elseยป
ยซRose Kingdom.
Still, she didn't expect to make the Satsuki Sho. In her mind, the race didn't suit her, but to be so close, yet so far, to watch it slip away like that, ate something from inside her.
While everyone else struggled to catch their breaths, Mere Phantom was still trying to registerยป
ยซelite, and second rate.
She just stood there, in shock, and without a ticket to the Satsuki Sho as she looked at the results board. Her breathing wasn't hard to get back under control, but her emotions were hard to control instead.
Again, even she knew in the moment they were misdirected atยป
ยซone and a quarter lengths. All she could do was just... let it slip away.
She didn't have the pop, the drive to do what those three in front of her had just sprinted off to do. The gap between her nad Rose Kingdom, visualized for her displeasure.
Between what was perceived asยป
ยซThe gap which she had once closed to half a length soon surely, slowly pulled out from her to Rose Kingdom. All she could do is watch as a ticket to the Satsuki Sho slipped away.
Three quarters of a length.
A Length.
By the time she crossed the line, the gap she needed to bridge would have beenยป
ยซMere Phantom who would be the one in position to go get the favorite when she made her move. Up the order the pair of them went as they passed the fading pace chasers and front runners.
Yet.
The gap to Rose Kingdom, to Aliseo, to Gestalt was too big to close at this stage of the race.ยป
ยซdidn't take long for everyone behind the royal to start jockeying for position, vying to be the one there when everyone, inevitably made a break coming out of the final corner, all this jockeying occurred behind the royal who was pace chasing, out of mind too.
Out of it all, it would beยป
ยซin the middle of all the late surgers, it means she could watch the race unfold before her. She, probably like many of the other late surgers, had their race planned out with victory in mind.
The only problem was that only one of them could be towards the pointy end of the late surgers.
Itยป
ยซIt didn't take much longer before the sound to start the race played, and the gates simultaneously opened.
All fifteen uma musume poured out onto the track, jostling for position as they traveled down the home stretch and into the first corner, where things settled into line, with Mere Phantomยป
ยซwaits for the audible signal to race.
Instead for about a half minute, all she heard was the sound of gates closing behind competitors, despite the sound of hers closing had long since passed.
For a time, there was silence.
It was the signal to everyone in the gates to get ready, and they did.ยป
ยซgates by officials. Some much more receptive to the idea of the gate than others.
Mere Phantom was one of the ones who just couldn't wait to get this damn thing started already, so she found herself getting into the gate almost immediately. Her vision strictly stays straight ahead as she nowยป
ยซthrow her 'rival's' game off now that raceday is here.
Not that it would have worked, it seemed similarly to herself, that rival was in a world of her own. Lost to her own thoughts like the Phantasm beside her.
Before Mefan even knew it, her and the other Uma Musume were being ushered into theirยป
ยซdidn't seem to sit well with the blue illusion, and her hope was to break those dreams of those riding the hype of her bracket mate.
Oh yeah, she's starting right next to Rose Kingdom.
She's already given the black haired uma some of her mental games, she doesn't need to do anything else to tryยป
ยซbe able to release her tension towards not Rose Kingdom, but at the type of reception she garnered.
Jealousy wouldn't be the correct word to describe her feelings towards it, nor envy. It was... annoyance. Being touted as a Triple Crown favorite before even the beginning of the year justยป
ยซthis, Rose Kingdom can do that. It's the last thing she needed to hear before a triple crown qualifier.
Her fists clutch and she tenses up, only to be able to release it after with a deep breath and a relaxing of the body once more. She needed that sort of physical release to actuallyยป
ยซbut the bar for this Grade 2 race was much higher than that of the pair's previous race. The entire week, the entire buildup all she had heard was comparisons to Rose Kingdom. It conditioned her to get upset at even the mention of the competitor she once teased and annoyed. Rose Kingdom can doยป
ยซcare less. By the time she had made it to the staging area, there was a familiar name that did catch her attention, one that angered her so.
"Rose Kingdom!" echoed throughout the stadium. The odds on favorite. She had won the previous race they were in, where she finished fifth. Not a bad result,ยป
ยซtrack's main and color commentators. She already knew the type of introduction she was getting.
'Mere Phantom, 10th favorite, hasn't won a race outside of her debut, hopes to step out of the shadows and defy the low expectations put on her by the oddsmakers.' or some shit like that, she can'tยป
ยซalready made her paddock appearances and media obligations obliged to. With a white number plate of 2 on and a white gym shirt, black shorts, she stepped into the long hall that would eventually tunnel her out to the racecourse.
She effectively tuned out the introduction she was given by theยป
ยซShe's always had the trait, but she's deathly focused on the race before her. To say this is something that people probably hadn't seen of her before wouldn't be all that inaccurate of a statement.
She stretched her legs for a few more minutes before it was time to leave the dressing room, havingยป
๐บ๐๐ last look in the mirror. One last adjustment of her ear accessories.
Her light blue star ear accessory proudly worn atop of her ear as she finally seems satisfied with how it's being worn. Normally she'd have smirked or smiled but she's in almost an unrecognizable "mode" of hers at the moment.ยป
